It was a poor tackle with awful consequences for us and Xabi, but not a premeditated career threatener that some have suggested. For sure, part of Chelskis team-talk would have involved getting close to Alonso, snapping around his heels, not letting him see the pass and dictate the pace of the game etc but not to kick him off the park IMHO.
It was a booking. Lampard is not a butcher he's a top quality midfield player. Probably the second best English one around at the moment. Quite a distant second best though it has to be said. Well OK it probably doesn't have to be said but I just felt like it.

it appears xabi isn't accepting lampard's apology straight away... and who can blame him.

sorry if anyone else posted this quote and i didn't see it.

Lampard lunge angers Alonso

                                           Chris Hatherall
Monday    January   3, 2005
The Guardian

Xabi Alonso has criticised Frank Lampard for the tackle that broke his ankle and may sideline the Spaniard for eight weeks.

The Chelsea midfielder has apologised but Alonso is angry at the way he handled the situation.

"The tackle was hard and late," the Liverpool player said. "I want to think it was not deliberate, but what surprised me was that he protested to the referee when it was a clear foul. That helped prevent the red card but I have seen sendings-off for a lot less.

"I thought straightaway there was something broken and when I couldn't walk I realised it was serious. This is the worst injury that I have had in years."

Just goes to show the quality in Alonso in comparison to Lampard.
Alonso is a class act and not only shows it week in week out for us , but also in the game against England.
Lampard on the other hand  is , yes i admit a very good midfield player , but not in the same league as Alonso. He found that out  on New years day , didnt like it , threw a hissy when he was caught out  when showing his frustration by the tackle on Alonso.
Alonso has every right to be angry with Lampard , he was the victim of someone else,s envy i feel.
