City will talk - What price anelka

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Seems that City are prepared to listen to offers for Anelka.

They still owe PSG some money and say the price will have to be well above that amount.

Anyone know how much they owe, and what price we could get him for.

Looks like its time to start moving.

Like I said before mate, the time for moving was probably about six weeks ago. The movings already been done, just waiting for the window to open so we can help whoever it is jump through it.
This idea that managers wake up one morning and thinks, "Bugge r it I think I'll give 'ol Keegan a ring and see what he wants for that wayward French ponce, the window opens tomorrow" is a bit of a myth. Rafa will like as not have been negotiating with both clubs and players from the minute Owen left. Houlliers gone now mate, I reckon a little bit of thought goes into it. :D

I can never remember being in this position supporting LFC, waiting for the transfer window to open, so we know who we're going to get.

Do you reckon, it'll be a case of 1st January we know who we'll be getting? Pity they couldn't sign ready for Chelsea game on 1st!

He didn't do much for LFC when he was there. Too much of a bitch too.

I thought he did quite wll Niall to be honest. Didn't uproot trees admittedly but is a proven Premiership striker who would need little or no settling in period. Not cup-tied for the champions league, different in style to Cisse and Baros and hopefully keen to finally deliver the performances that his undoubted talent would suggest he is capable of.
At the right price, a definate possibility in my view. Not quite as exciting or as glamorous as an unknown Equadorian but a proven, cast-iron goalscorer in the Premiership. Even if he was a total 'bitch' and got on everyones tits all season, I reckon if he played all the games he'd get over 15 goals in a Premiership year for us, over 20 if you include cup games. Thats every season pretty much for certain in my book. Question is, can you take a risk on the undoubted toys out of the pram potential? If it wasn't for that, then we certainly wouldn't be able to afford him I would suggest.

I also feel that Anelka never set the world alight at Anfield. Depending on what we have to spend he may well be worth bringing back, but only for a pretty reasonable fee. I wouldnt want us throwing big money at the deal and I imagine thats what City will be after.

Anelka could do a job for us only if he sorts out his attitude and gets his head down and scores goals then its all good but i would not pay more than 7 million tops

I thought we had a decent season out of Anelka and the older he gets the tantrums and hissy-fits seem to be calming down. I don't think he's EXACTLY what we need but when we can't afford what we want, he might have to do. I'd feel quite comfortable in bringing him back.

It's quite possible Houllier would still be in a job if he'd chosen the moody frenchman over Diouff. I'd be delighted if we signed the lad. We know he will score goals, most likely he will score them immediately + he has developed into a real team player. I think he created more than he scored when he was over on loan. Sure his temperament is always a question mark but he is a massive talent. The lad would cost 15-20 mill if it wasn't for the doubts about his head which would put him way out of our league.

Did he have a rant at GH when he decided not to sign him? I can't recall. Neither do i remember GH disclosing the reasons. Seem to remember him saying something along the lines of 'Nicholas knows why i did not sign him'

If Anelka can score goals in a very poor team like Man City, just imagine what he can do for us with more chances being created this season. He did not set the world alight when he was on loan from PSG to us because he was playing in a team which was geared towards creating Owen-esque chances. How many players can score loads when partnering Owen and having your midfielders using the Houllier one-dimensional punt-the-ball-and-hope-you-outpace-the-opposition-and-score playing style?

The only thing is his attitude would not endear him to Benithez.
