I wouldn't mind seeing Beattie at Anfield, hes a good player. If i had to choose him or Garcia for 6M, I would take Beattie.

not that it matters, benitez wont be buying an english striker IMO,
would be interesting to see if beattie could make that next step tho, bit of a risk tho

Come on lads! James Beattie?! I've got a wooden leg and I'm faster than him!  :D
For the money he'd cost we must be able to buy better than that.
I've heard plenty of stuff from mates who live in Southampton about what he gets up to off the pitch and we're better off without.

Beattie is not good enough!! Also, he loves himself and would cause tension in the dressing room, by parading around infront of the mirrors.

Theres no way Beattie is good enough for Liverpool. Being English his price tag will be over the top too. Theres no way Benitez will chuck his money away on this player. We may as well have kept Heskey, or get Koeller for nothing whos a better player than Beattie.

Imo Beattie is a mediocre player. I agree with the one saying that it`s no point in selling Heskey to replace him with Beattie.

so why exactly do you think Beattie would be better than garcia then? garcia has added more creativity, flair and skill to our attack, what makes you think beattie would be better value

Beattie? not for me. However, sooner or later people on here are going to have to get used to the fact that we can't just go out and splash 10 million quid here and there. Rafa is going to have to be a little shrewd, to wheel and deal a bit. By definition, this means that sometimes he will have to take a chance on a player. If a player was obviously top drawer then we wouldn't be able to afford him in all probability. Its all very well saying, sign Morientes, Defoe, Shevchenko or whatever and dismissing any other candidates, "not good enough, not enough class" etc etc but sooner or later we are going to have to unearth a few golden nuggets encased in dust and polish em up. If they were already nuggets, we wouldn't be able to bid for em. Beattie may or may not be that nugget. At around 4 million I'd not argue with taking a chance on him (though he wouldn't be my first choice, regular posters know who would) but I suspect you'd have to go to 7 or 8, which in my view is too much.

I do not know why you guys underestimate Benitez. What part of "physical" do you not understand. Look at the guys Benitez has bought. They are all very hard working and extremely fit. He will continue to buy team players, fit players, hard working players. Did you ever watch Valencia play? ????? They had 11 hard working players. They were the best team in spain. All their players ran their sox off for the full 90 minutes. So why on earth should Benitez change his philosophy now and move for Beattie? And his price tag is completely over the top. So I ask again why do you underestimate Benitez? Do you take him for a fool?

Banana, who is that aimed at exactly? If Benitez were to sign Beattie (and I don't think for one minute he will) does that mean he is a fool? Nobody is underestimating anyone, people are just giving an opinion to the merits or not of Beattie. Take a chill pill bud' and relax.

one thing for sure.. benitez will sign only spanish... english? no way... to expensive... i agree will some saying that we will sign someone who is not famous but young like a raw stone and polish into a diamond... something like that... no way liverpool is goin to have so much money to spend on established stars... just count how much money already spend this season... at least 35 million already!

Yes for short term impact Koeller would be a good signing. But James Beattie is younger and will become a better player in the future. The lad had a streak last year fror Southapton that proved he was class when on form.
And he does have a bit of pace, just not as much as a MO or or a MB..
