Where do you guys usually go for holiday, with or without family?

Where have you been that you recommend Or spots one should avoid.

Be good to share ideas, experiences etc.....

Depends where you live and what you want. I visit Greece a lot since it's the easiest for me as it's just a few hours drive to some decent locations, slightly more to the islands etc. Great country for a beach holiday and some partying if you're into that. Been to Spain a few times and I guess that's a better option for British people. Was to Valencia, Alicante and Benidorm last year. Valencia is a bigger city with lots to do and also has a decent beach to visit. The other two are smaller towns mostly for tourism, good for a few days for a relaxing holiday.

I'd be careful with Italy. A lot of places are expensive, too crowded and simply not worth it. Not all but a lot.

The coast of Northern Spain from Bilbao to Coruna offers some great locations , top seafood and some great beaches.Increasingly popular but still far less crowded than Spain's  southern coastal tourist destinations.
If your feeling more adventurous a safari in Kenya is a memorable experience folloed by some chill time on the coast from Mombasa to Lamu .

I was in Bratislava last week for a few days and did a day trip to Vienna, only an hour away. Both beautiful cities, the latter a tad expensive though.
In a couple of weeks I'm flying into a warzone - Tallinn. Supposed to be a beautiful city. Also doing a day trip by ferry to Helsinki.
In the past year I've done short trips to Seville, Cordoba, Krakow, Riga, Vilnius, Lisbon, Bergamo. I thought Lisbon was pretty filthy too be honest although some stunning sights to see. All the others were fabulous.

Anybody planning a getaway this summer ? I'm torn between Greece and Turkey or just staying home for the world cup 

Was in Cyprus last summer. Very nice place, similar to Greece in a lot of ways but still has its own uniqueness. It's very popular with British tourists too and has a high British influence.

Went to Portugal last October to a place called Lagos. Lovely little town about an hour past Albufeira. My only complaint was the food wasnt great. The restaurants where all a carbon copy of one another with not a lot of difference in the menus. At this stage its just myself and the missus going on holidays 

Was thinking of Greece, Cyprus or Malta this year but could end up on Santorini!!

Never been to Cyprus. Not sure if I want to visit a place flooded with British tourists

Never been to Portugal although many years ago I did hitchhike through Mozambique which was at the time considered a province of Portugal.
Interesting comment re the food.
I'm thinking here  , Weather and Amenities aside , does the quality of the food provided/available affect your decision to re-visit a place ?
For me, maybe I didn't understand what to order BUT Turkey and Greece were a big disappointment

We were on the Greek side in a place called Protaras, but went on a day tour to the Turkish side to visit the former luxury resort Varosha that was abandoned during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in the 70s, it was very post-apocalyptic like.

If you like marine nature and want a more organic experience try the Azores. I went a lot as they have very big Atlantic blue marlin that come in for a couple of months of the year, small ones there are 400 lbs and they hold many of the world records, the goal was to catch a 1000 lb fish. Fishing aside they have a huge whale watching industry and epic ocean views anywhere on the island. Very friendly people once you get past the language barrier and only one traffic light on the whole island that only works an hour a day during “rush hour”. I personally love the nature and lack of traffic and people. The air is so clean you don’t even blow your nose. Well worth a visit if that is what you like.

Best exotic places to visit (after 30+ years living overseas):
Argentina, Brazil, Burma, Rajastan (W India),

Best places for a relaxing holiday in europe:
Italy, Sardinia, Istanbul and the Algarve.

Best weirdo but superb place

For me no but herself yes. She likes the different restaurant every night, the kind of place where its fancy but not filling if you know what I mean. I do need a Mc D's after half of them 

I've been looking on booking.com and leaning towards Santorini or Malta this summer
