Exceptional performance, one of the most exciting players I've seen for years. I love the way he turns defenders and shift the ball forward so quickly and that finish, wow!!

Phil named Player of the Month for 3rd time in a row

Philippe Coutinho's recent dominance of the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award has continued after the Liverpool No.10 collected the accolade for February.

Fans nominated the Brazilian playmaker as their star man in December and January and maintained their appreciation by voting him for the honour for a third successive time.

It was no less than the 22-year-old deserved.

Coutinho unleashed a spectacular strike from distance in the opening match of the month to complete a Reds turnaround in the FA Cup at Bolton Wanderers.

He started six of the team's seven games in February, maintaining a relentless level of creative performance to help Liverpool strengthen their season ambitions.

Perhaps his personal highlight was a goal of unforgettable technique and audacity, a powerful blast from 25 yards against Southampton that kissed the crossbar as it sailed in.

More than 8,000 votes were cast by supporters in our online poll for the Standard Chartered-sponsored prize - and Coutinho clocked up a landslide 73 per cent.

Upon receiving the award at Melwood, Coutinho told Liverpoolfc.com: "Winning this trophy makes me very happy as it's a cool award, voted for by the fans.

"It definitely helps to give my confidence a boost - I'm pleased to get this recognition from them.

"Nevertheless, I think the most important thing is the fact that Liverpool are playing well as a team. It's fundamental for us as a squad to keep winning games."

Asked if February was his finest month of performances since arriving at Anfield two years ago, he added: "It might have been.

"Everyone has been playing well and we've been able to keep the momentum going.

"These have been happy months for us here and I expect to continue working hard and improving, hoping that it'll help us to win more games."

I love Coutinho as much as the next guy but this was definitely undeserved. Bar the cracker against the Saints, Phil had a relatively poor February to be fair. IMO, the award should have gone to Skrtel, Can or Mignolet, someone from our defense in any case.

I'm really surprised that Coutinho got this award to be honest, it's very unfair towards our defenders who have been phenomenal and the real reason why we turned our season around. Who picks the winner anyway?

I would'e given it to Mig. It would be akin to a pat on the shoulder to him, from the fans that we are right behind him. It would surely be a heartfelt gesture because since he returned to the side he has grown in confidence, even to the extent that he now comes out and decisively punches balls, adding that trait to his locker now, as well as having the tools to shot stop as well, which has rarely been his problem. His confidence has permeated through to our defence and vice a versa. Coutinho is class - agreed but he can drift out of games. Mig is always in the firing line.

I would give it to him. Mig has been awful and now playing decent whereas Coutinho was decent and now playing very well. Bar a couple of good saves Mig is doing what he is supposed to which he was not before whereas Coutinho has upped his game with great goals. Right now he is the best player we have.

Never liked that analogy, when forwards are playing well they're getting all the praise but when defenders are playing well they're just "doing what they're supposed to".

Also, we're talking about a player of the month, not of the season (which Coutinho will surely get and deservedly so), so it doesn't matter how poor or how good a player was before or after that month, it only matter how he performed within that month, and bar the cracker against Southampton Coutinho was relatively poor in February.

Not saying that Mig should have got the award but it should have definitely been someone from our defence, they deserve some sort of recognition because they're the key to turning our season around.

Come on mate Mig has recently been outstanding not just decent. Credit where it's due.

That is fair enough that you think that but after seeing him the last year and and up to Dec this season make error after error I still need more time before I claim he has become a good keeper. Recently he has made a few good saves ( ones a good keeper should make) and has improved at crosses but I still get nervous when he comes out. His distribution has improved a little but not enough. I still think we need a commanding keeper and I believe he would be a good number 2, that is just my opinion.

What you're saying is all valid. I just think some of the saves have been outstanding, that of a top keeper. However no argument that he has had shocking moments to date in his Liverpool career. The most baffling thing from day one is the fact that BR likes to play from the back and Mig has always been rubbish with his kicking.

Those errors are never too far from my mind and he still looks prone to the odd one.  He is a fantastic shotstopper and was also when he was making those errors but its his commanding of the area that has swung it for me. That has been his most notable area of improvement and it is a comfort to watch him punching a ball clear rather than getting lost under it.

I also would have advocated replacing him but now I wouldn't. I do believe though that we need a better no 2 than jones and would prefer it to be at least someone at mingys level rather than a kid. He cost a fair whack and I don't believe we will spend similar again so soon so signing a decent no 2 who will keep him on his toes will benefit us better.

At the moment though he is in a fine run of form. He has had a large part to play in our clean sheet run as he has pulled off some top saves to make it happen.
I'm not saying though that we couldn't do better but truth is that I don't think we will.
