whats a good season?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

What's a good season this season? Personally after last season I believed that a top four finish was enough…

I also believed that had issues been dealt with such as the midfieId, defene and goalkeeper. We have again been near enough at the top again, I do believe certain things have  against  but can't handle the money that was wasted. There was talk of Kehdeira going for similar money than can went for… the lack of the Remy deal grated as well.

If we unconvincingly scrape fourth due to direct competition failing I would be more than inclined to wave goodbye, if we address an issue or two in January, the signings improve massively and we convincingly get fourth for me it could buy Rodgers one more season with a limited budget…

Curious as to what everyone's expectations and hopes are for the season ahead and what they would they would find a failure? Would seventh to fourth in three seasons after spending the biggest budget we ever had as well as another hundred million on top? Especially the kind of players we have brought in and missed out on acceptable? Must admit I am not so sure

Top 4 minimum.  Anything outside the top 4 is disaster, having spent £117,000,000 we will be back to square one when he took over.  Overpaid for average players with a squad full of deadwood.

This is a really good thread Stu, certainly at this point it is easier for us to make a realistic assessment of what would be seen as a good season

All things considered, i still think a top 4 finish would be a good season and is also a realistic target based on the right signings in January and the manager getting the best out of the players that we have available to us

A good season would also be to win the League Cup, we have (on paper) a straightforward quarter final tie setup with Bournemouth and once you get into the semi finals anybody can beat anybody

Top 4 finish and League Cup would be a good season, with the right signings in January for the key weak positions you mentioned, specifically GK and DM

Top 4, getting out of the CL group and winning a domestic cup.

As dreadful as we've been so far we've still got a good chance of getting 4th. City and Chelsea are nailed on and Arsenal always finish top 4. Of the rest, can Southampton sustain it if they get inuries? United have firepower but are worse than us at the back. Spurs are average. So are Everton. 4th is literally anybody's this season.

I'd say a GOOD season would be a real title challenge and winning a cup and getting past the last 16 in the CL. An acceptable season would be CL second round, top 4 and winning a cup. If we fail to make top 4 that would be considered a POOR season.

I wouldn't say Arsenal are nailed on. Although they scrape through most seasons, each year its always very close. Their form after Xmas is notoriously bad.

has to be top 4 again combined with a cup win. the icing would be advancement from the group stage of the CL. that would be my idea of a good season but would happily take top 4.

Mine would be slightly different in the mandatory requirements being CL progression and CL qualification again (top 4).

A domestic cup win would be icing on the cake. Two domestic cup wins would be the equivalent of Battenberg, icing and marzipan.

A top four finish, with more CL footy and the revenue that goes with it would be acceptable and would restore some of my waning faith in Rodgers as the man to take us forward.

After the departure of Suarez combined with our managers less than stellar signings we were never going to challenge for the title again this season . For me it was all about consolidation, i.e. we're back in the top four and the aim this season is to make sure we stay there !

Anything less than a top four finish is imo a massive fail, the responsibility for which should be laid squarely on the manager.   :kungfu:

A good season would be showing signs that we are on the right path without Suarez.
Are we able to field a side that can blitz teams and play like the end of last season?  Possibly so... the Spurs game suggests so.  We need Sturridge back for that though.
Or do we need to adapt our game?  Play more like we did last night with a bit more adventure?

If we start to progress and continue as the season goes on then we keep the manager.  (And would probably get top 4)

If we continue to perform as we did against Newcastle and show no signs of improvement.. then we need to sit down and review all the information available and decide whats best for the club.

At the end of the day.. mistakes were made in the transfer market.  Thats clear to everybody.  The question is do we back the man or start from scratch again?  The next 30 odd games hold the answer.

If we're going on the current situation I think 4th should be the aim. Would like to win the league cup. If we were to qualify for the latter stages of the CL I'd not be suprised if we got to the final or something.

Most of all is just like to see us start to play a bit. We've been hard to watch so far. Like many of us, I'd be happier if we'd at least been competitive in recent times. Defeat is much easier to swallow if we put up a fight.
