Liverpool AGREE £12m deal for Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno

LIVERPOOL have agreed a £12m deal for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno and the player is now set to be pulled out of tonight’s Uefa Super Cup showdown with Real Madrid.

Anfield chief executive Ian Ayre finalised negotiations with the Spanish club in Cardiff today ahead of the showpiece game.

Leaving Liverpool, however, is Martin Kelly who will seek to revive his injury-scarred career at Crystal Palace in a £1.5m deal.

Moreno, 22, will now travel to Merseyside for a medical ahead of becoming manager Brendan Rodgers’ latest summer signing after the captures of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Lazar Markovic, Divok Origi, Javier Manquillo and Emre Can.

Left-back has become a problem position for Liverpool following the knee injury sustained by Jose Enrique last season and Moreno will provide strong competition to his fellow Spaniard who has just returned from a lengthy spell out.

Quick and comfortable marauding forward, Moreno did not make the final cut for Spain’s World Cup squad but has been likened to Barcelona’s Jordi Alba.

He was expected to play his final game for Sevilla tonight against Real, but has now been pulled out to avoid injury and the prospect of the deal collapsing.

Kelly, meanwhile, will look to boost his fortunes after playing just eight games last season after recovering from a cruciate knee injury.

From the Liverpool Echo, most trusted source

Liverpool FC have agreed a deal with Sevilla to sign left-back Alberto Moreno.

The Reds will pay around £12million up front with the fee rising with various add-ons.

Chief executive Ian Ayre completed negotiations with the La Liga outfit in Cardiff ahead of tonight's UEFA Super Cup final against Real Madrid.

As a result Moreno was withdrawn from the Sevilla side and will instead head for Merseyside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

The 22-year-old Spain international has been pursued by Liverpool all summer and will become Brendan Rodgers' eighth signing of this window.

As Moreno checks in, Martin Kelly's Anfield career is coming to an end. The Reds have agreed to sell the 24-year-old defender to Crystal Palace for around £1.5million.

as much as i agree with the sentiments, we need to be selfish and think of ourselves, last thing we need is someone like the nutcase Pepe putting a crunching challenge in on him, best keep him fit and well for us, but i like the sentiment :)

On the subject of a keeper.... Stoke want Assaidi (6 mil ish), why dont we offer Stoke Assaidi plus cash for Begovic ??  I have said it before and it makes perfect sense

im sure the lad is ecstatic about joining us but he will be gutted on missing out on a european final in the hours leading up to it.  its only 1 game and i would understand if it was some meaningless friendly but it isnt.
we waited all summer to sign him and 1 more night wouldnt have killed us.

If we are getting Moreno for 12 mil then you've got to wonder what the hold up was and why we've waited until 4 days before the season starts to sign him instead of having a pre-season with us.

If a deal was finally struck I expected it to be for closer to 20mil if all the papers were to be believed.  Wonder what the 'add ons' are.

Still - a good player.  Our full back positions look a lot stronger now with him on board.  And if Manquillo's debut was anything to go by he could be a player too.
