Well there's one piece of good news
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are all interested in Benfica duo Joao Filipe and Joao Virginia, Sky Sports understands.

Filipe is a 15-year-old winger, while Virginia is a goalkeeper and is of the same age. Both players are highly rated.

Earlier in the season, Barcelona made an offer for Filipe, who has been likened to Real Madrid and Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo.

Both Filipe and Virginia have been offered new long-term deals by Benfica, but they have yet to agree to them.

The teenagers are thought to be keen on playing in the Premier League in the future, and this has alerted United, City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Benfica are now bracing themselves for offers from the English clubs.

Get Markovic in and I reckon our forward line will be sorted for next season.
Obviously losing Suarez would hurt any team but Sturridge, Sterling, Markovic, Lallana, Coutinho and Lambert form a formidable attacking unit in their own right IMO.

Steven Caulker has held talks with Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace, but is still considering his transfer options.

The Cardiff captain and centre-half was given permission to speak to both Premier League clubs after they met his £8million release clause at the relegated Bluebirds.

Caulker has had meetings with both the newly-promoted Hoops' manager Harry Redknapp and his counterpart at the south Londoners, Tony Pulis.

Redknapp is dangling the possibility of a partnership with vastly-experienced former England centre-back Rio Ferdinand, who is also a QPR target.

But ambitious Tottenham old boy Caulker is waiting to see if Liverpool come in for him as he played for Brendan Rodgers on loan at Swansea during his Spurs days.

Southampton are also monitoring the 22-year-od, who has one full England cap, as Liverpool want Saints defender Dejan Lovren.

Luis Suárez is edging towards a £75 million move to Barcelona as Liverpool step up their own transfer activity by considering a £10 million bid for Swansea City’s Ben Davies.

Suárez’s exit from Anfield could be sealed in the next 48 hours after the two clubs agreed the final details on the deal, with the transfer held up while Fifa arranges a date for the appeal against the Uruguay striker’s four-month ban.

The Uruguayan Football Association’s appeal is likely to be heard this week, as it tries to reduce the suspension, and Suárez’s move to the Nou Camp will be pushed through after that.

Negotiations between Liverpool and Barcelona are highly advanced, and the only other delay has been over the schedule of payments, but the forward is expected to be presented by the Spanish giants in the next few days.

Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, is focusing on strengthening his squad regardless of Suárez’s imminent departure, and is expected to complete the signing of Serbian international Lazar Markovic on Thursday.

The Benfica winger flew to England on Wednesday night and will undergo a medical at Melwood before completing the formalities of the deal. Markovic has a buy-out clause in his contract and he will join Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can as the latest new arrival on Merseyside.

Swansea left-back Davies has now emerged as a realistic target after Liverpool made an inquiry to the Welsh club on Wednesday. Davies is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, but Rodgers is weighing up a raid on his old club to solve what has proved a problematic position. Both Liverpool and Spurs are prepared to meet the £10 million valuation for the Wales international, who is in Chicago with the Swansea squad.

Liverpool are also confident of signing Divock Origi, the Belgium international, after holding initial talks on Wednesday. The 19-year-old will cost around £10 million from Lille but the Ligue 1 club have insisted he goes back on loan next season as part of the deal. Spurs are believed to have made a late bid to sign the forward, but Liverpool do not envisage any problems in completing the deal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have stepped up their efforts to make left back Filipe Luis the club’s permanent replacement for Ashley Cole. Roma signed Cole this week and Chelsea want 28-year-old Luis to step into his position next season.

Chelsea have reopened negotiations with Atlético Madrid over agreeing a fee for Luis, who wants to move to Stamford Bridge. There is a release clause of around £19 million in his Atlético contract, but Chelsea have been reluctant to meet that figure.

The Blues, though, are trying again to strike a deal with the Spanish club, from whom they have already signed striker Diego Costa.

Argentina left-back Marcos Rojo, who plays for Sporting Lisbon, is one alternative if Chelsea cannot settle on a price with Atlético.

Signing a specialised left-back is now a priority for Chelsea following the captures of striker Costa and midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Cesar Azpilicueta played most of last season at left-back for Chelsea, but his natural position is on the right.

What a challenge by Mascherano to deny Robben of a certain goal in injury time...if he's available for the right price, I reckon he could strengthen our back line by quite a bit

I think if Masch wanted to leave Barce it would be because they play him at the back and not his favoured Defensive Midfield position.

Dont see why we are chasing Lovren for 25 million when Vlaar could be available and just had another fantastic game for the dutch. This guy will not be at Villa next year so i hope we can get in there before the likes of UTD, Citeh and Barcelona

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

With Real continuing to chase Radamel Falcao, Benzema could become available.

He has already reportedly snubbed one offer of a new contract and with his deal running down, Madrid would be tempted with a £40million bid.

Despite interest from numerous Premier League rivals, Steven Caulker appears to be holding out for a move to Liverpool.

With interest from QPR and Crystal Palace, amongst others, Caulker is apparently holding out for a move to Liverpool, where he would be able to link up with Brendan Rodgers again.

Rodgers was in charge of Swansea when he signed Caulker on loan from Tottenham but Southampton's Dejan Lovren is thought to be his prime target instead.

Saints could also move for Caulker if Lovren does leave for Liverpool and, with so many options available, it seems as though the Bluebirds star is in no rush to make a decision.

QPR had appeared to be at the front of the queue for his services after agreeing a fee with Cardiff but that £8m offer was matched by Crystal Palace.
