Liverpool and West Ham will need to battle it out with a host of European clubs if they wish to sign Colombia defender Eder Balanta, Express reports.

The Colombian centre-back is believed to be football's next rising star and could be on his way to Europe after a string of solid performances for at the World Cup.

Currently playing in the Argentine Premier League with River Plate, the 21-year-old is worth about £6 million as both the Reds and Hammers are targeting him for a switch.

The Premier League pair were thought to be the only sides chasing the player, but could now be joined by Juventus, Roma, Fiorentina, Barcelona, and Galatasaray.

Vice-president Matias Patanian told Radio La Red: "For the moment we only know, in an official way, that Juventus are making a big effort for Balanta.

"We have heard what an English newspaper is saying about West Ham.

"If the amount of money that the newspaper mentions is true and we receive an offer like that, then River could sit down and stat negotiations as it would be close to the amount the club expects for transferring Balanta.

"If the money that is being mentioned in the English media is that, then we will have to listen to them when we receive an official offer.

"Of course we would want to sell our players to the team that gets closest to our value."

I think this Shaqiri fella if it happens will be the signing of the summer. I think he is under estimated specially by bayern.

He is Strong,Pacey and he can finish. He is only 22. Hopefully these rumours are true and we get him in ASAP

Sevilla sporting director says Liverpool FC deal for Alberto Moreno is off

Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodríguez Verdejo believes Liverpool FC transfer target Alberto Moreno will stay put after the clubs failed to agree on a fee.

The Reds tabled an offer of £16million for the Spanish left-back last month but the La Liga outfit are holding out for around £20million.

Liverpool still hope a deal can be done but Verdejo says that will only happen if the asking price is met.

“The matter of Alberto is practically settled. We couldn’t reach an agreement and I don’t think it can be revived,” he said.

“It was great offer, but the player is only 21 years old and it’s possible that the catharsis of being with the national team had a positive effect.

“He has a lot of room to grow and the coach is very happy to have him. I don’t think we’ll make a lot of moves, but if on August 14 a club comes along and they give you a mountain of cash, well….I know you don’t like to hear it, but we are economic managers.

“My feeling is that the negotiations are paralysed and I don’t see any hint that they will be restarted. We put a price on our players which we believe to be appropriate. Whoever wants to buy, can buy, and if you can’t…

“Also, with the sale of (Ivan) Rakitic, our needs were covered. We don’t have the burden we had at other times.”

According to Bayern fans over on RAWK Shaqiri is the ultimate YouTube player, okay he's had one good game in the World Cup but the likes of Phil Babb and Diouf were great for an entire tournament.
If this club has learnt anything over the years it's don't buy players based on their World Cup performances.
Sanchez and Markovic should be our targets but I suspect knowing us we'll 'make the most' out of finishing second by bringing in the likes of Bertrand, this Belgian lad Origri and Shaqiri.

They have got to be joking, his buy out clause is near £80m.
I'm sick of us being shafted by those 2 clubs, when we sold Owen to Real we got a pittance and some of their deadwood, we sold Mascherano to Barca for a million less than actually we bought him, Real dragged the Alonso saga out all summer and signed him at the last minute totally ruining our entire pre season, Barcelona used Mcmanaman as a decoy to get Rivaldo which left Mcmanaman feeling disillusioned with Liverpool to the extent he joined Real for ***** all not long later......they have had 4 of our best players over the last 20 years and stitched us up every time.

Update on Shaquiri

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri after meeting with his family in Switzerland to agree terms on a switch to Anfield.

Bayern Munich have reportedly given the Reds permission to discuss a deal for Shaqiri, who is currently representing his country at the World Cup.

And Liverpool are confident they will be able to conclude the deal quickly, with senior officials said to be on the verge of agreeing a five-year-deal worth £95,000-a-week.

Shaqiri has emerged as Liverpool's number one transfer target after they finally gave up on trying to lure Yevhen Konoplyanka and Adam Lallana.

Sky Italia says that while a fee is yet to be agreed on for Shaqiri, it should be a formality once he accepts Liverpool's contract offer.

The 22-year-old has made it clear he wants out of Bayern this summer, having slipped down the pecking order since his transfer from Basel.

other than the goals he scored last night his first 2 games where quite poor, he's also a bit small and might struggle in the prem. in saying that id rather see us pay 17 for him rather than 30 for lallana.
i agree though sanchez and markovic are the calibre of player we should be aiming for especially seen as luis's future might be up in the air.

Good post.

That shaquri is a bit of a nothing player. Seen him plenty of times and I'd rather have Walcott... He's nowhere near as Hondas sterling, coutinho or even sturridge. Cant believe we are being heavily linked with  more dross. Our management never learn.

We finished second and have champions league to offer as well as being one of the biggest clubs in world and paying probably the third or fourth highest wages in England and top ten in Europe.

We should make the most of this by signing Vorm, Williams, Shawcross, Shitquiri and someone like Tom cleverly. Maybe if we could get Bertrand and Kieran Clarke from villa too...

We shouldn't bother goin for top players like Pedro, Sanchez, begovic, lovren, fabregas or anyone else decent...
