A doubt for the game this weekend. The signs aren't good for the derby. We've got Enrique injured, which means Traore has to play at LB. And now our top scorer, all because of a meaningless friendly? FVCKING HELL!

he was only on the pitch a matter of minutes as well, our strike force is the best in the division imo, which makes it all the more galling that we cant put together a decent midfield to back them up.

Hope some of the cheering was reserved for Gerrard's brilliant ball late in the second half   :nod

Somewhere in between all those long balls that go amiss or simple balls that go array there just has to be one or two that find their original target.
Congratulations on noticing this . :;):

Gerrard was simply awful today, and was completely bossed by the Bitterz midfield ,but if two finely struck balls can salvage what was basically a feeble performance then I'm glad for you mate .....I on the other hand like my midfielder's to afford a tackle on their respective teams behalf .

you can cling on to his set piece delivery if you want mate but sooner or later it will dawn on you that one by one all the skills that used to adorn his game are dissapearing.
his pace has gone, his engine has deffo gone, thanks to that groin injury that nearly ended his career his long range shooting has gone (those trademark thunderbolt shots are a thing of the past), take away his penalties and by and large the goals have dried up and where he once was the master of the defence splitting pass now most of his assists come from corners and set piece deliveries. any free kicks that offer a goalscoring opportunity go to suarez anyway.
at his age his game is only going to travel in one direction as well - south, in other words those skills wont be coming back.

I'm clinging on to the fact that without Gerrard's contribution today we'd have lost and fk all either of you have said can convince me differently.

RBG you have a right old go at Gerrard after virtually very game in between creaming your kecks over Lucas and who was it that gave away a stupid free kick that lead to Everton's first goal - yes it was Lucas ! You know I'm a fan of the lad but his mistakes in dangerous areas are his major weakness.

I honestly don't think I've ever set out to try and convince anyone ,I just know when someone is not working for the shirt then I will state as such.
If Gerrard has a good game I will say so ,and the same applies for Lucas.

Gerrard gave a tired performance earlier and no amount of extolling his two contributions to the game will alter that fact. The Bitterz ran our
midfield ragged at times and Gerrard's woeful passing nearly resulted in us conceding, thus affording the Blue shite  far more possession
than what their overall game deserved.

I do apologise if posters find my denigration of Gerrard's performances too harsh ....but I refuse to  sugar coat the obvious.

the way your going on you`d swear he put the two goals on a plate, the first came from a flicked on header and terrible marking and the second was a great finish by sturridge. talk about grasping at straws.

I wouldn't even waste your time discussing it.

People who can't see Gerrard's contribution today are simply clueless.

He tackled, passed and ran for the 90 minutes. He won some f*cking quality tackles and some great headers and barring Barry was probably the best midfielder on the pitch (Barkley not included).

The lad has plenty more to offer, thankfully, this is one of the things the manager can actually see, even if some of the "fans" can't.

Make all the excuses and whatever else you like, but I can pretty much say with certainty that Gerrard has more assists this season than probably Lucas and Henderson will get put together other the course of a season.

I'm not a big one for stats... but I'm sick to death of the critisism Gerrard gets. We all know he's nowhere near the monster he was 5 years ago. We ALL know and believe me... everyone of us can see it.... he's probably only half the player... but the fact is, in the first place, he was probably 3 times as good as Lucas and Henderson at his best. Anyone who thinks Lucas and Henderson are better than Gerrard now... in his current state/role... is not only misguided... but absolutely oblivious to how the game should be played.

I don't know why Brendan criticized DS for playing a full 90 minute friendly game despite not 100% fit. He should criticized Hodgson instead for playing DS for the full game without due consideration to his club. DS wanted to play in the WC and of course he would anything to please the England boss. Other than Suarez and Sturridge, we don't have any other quality striker to fill in their boots if any of them are out injured. We should be looking for another striker in January as a backup. Borini, Aspas IMO were flop signings. Yesil, Sinclair though promising are all still kids.

We shouldn't be letting our players go on International duty if they are not fit.
Having said that, Hodgson shouldn't be playing an unfit player for 90 minutes in a friendly when the Merseyside derby is coming up.

Hodgson is an absolute shi.thouse of a person and I hope England get knocked out at the group stage just to see that face rubbing ***** talk a bunch of bollix about too many foreigners being the problem.
