Sure, we may not have net expenditure, but it seems to me like BR is going for the right players and not buying players for the sake of buying. If we identify the right player and he is availabe for the right price, we will go for it. We have let go of deadwood and bought in players who may yet still improve our team. Besides, players like Sterling, Coutinho, etc have more experienced now with playing with each other. We have to put into perspective that last season was a transitional season where BR was still tweaking the way we play. I'm sure, this season he will be able to get much more out of this squad. If we end up 7th again, sure, it will be a disappointment. But I have a feeling we will do much better this season...

The question is will you be happy with 7th? Or even 6th (which is where I feel we may finish).

I don't understand why fans aren't alarmed that we haven't signed any players to try and catapult us into challenging for 4th this season.

i think in rodgers head he has signed those type of players ed's.
looking at the bench today we really need another CB pronto and a proper winger. if we can get a DM we'd be sorted but i doubt he is even looking for one.
how much money we have is anyone's guess, but i thought after last year they would give him enough money to make a statement with and maybe they still will. i have no doubt we will add at least another 2 players before it closes and i just hope they are good enough to start or better than what they are replacing.

I think we are in better shape than last season.
Aspas looks very decent, Alberto is an upgrade on Shelvey, Spearing was never good enough, Mignolet is an upgrade on
Pepe who hasn't been great past season or two, Toure will add the experience that Carragher had with that extra yard of pace.
We have not really spent anything yet with the players who have left.

The problem is to get to 4th we need a couple of quality players good enough for the first team, a top centre back is still a must for me, competition for Enrique and perhaps another attacking player.
Hopefully these will come soon.

We also have Lucas much filter, Allen back and playing well he has made some great forward runs in pre season Borini back fit with a lot to prove and Kelly too.

If we are to get 4th we need to do well in our games against Tottenham, Arsenal and the bitters as well as do what United always do and beat the teams we are supposed to beat.

We needed to get stronger this year and you could argue that Mignolet is better than Pepe and Toure may give us more than Carragher and potentially Aspas more strength in numbers.

However we could potentially lose Suarez who is a massive player to replace. We still need 2 first teamers to come in and right now I cant see when or who its going to be

We are "Slightly" stronger than last year I agree, but it's the teams like Chelsea, Man City, Spurs.. teams above us thats getting alot stronger what disturbs me.

We have bought to balance the books hoping to fluckily get into the champions league.. thats how it looks to me as a fan.

qualifying for champions league is no fluke...some teams earn it , some teams spend vast amounts of money to secure it...no flukes allowed

It was reported in today's tabloid that we are interested in signing Alessandro Matri, a Forward, plying is trade for Juventus (currently) but not to replace Suarez. Rafa has had a bid for him accepted, however, the player would prefer to move to the EPL. Should cost us around £10m.

He was really rated at Lyon when he first went there - played really well at Porto but tailed off towards the end and he left to go to Valencia ( quite cheap compared to his transfer from Porto ) - didnt really settle at Valencia and didnt play much.

He has a lot of talent and ability - very strong , good pace but positioning is very suspect - certainly likes to go forward.

A loan deal is no risk but certainly can't see him being any improvement on Enrique

Matri for £10mil is a good deal - consistent goalscorer

The Bundesliga started this weekend and Papadopoulos is still not fit enough to even make the Schalke bench for game against Hamburg today.
