BBC reporting that Suarez considering transfer request...

Luis Suarez to consider transfer request in Liverpool dispute

By David Ornstein
BBC Sport

Luis Suarez will consider submitting a formal transfer request and the possibility of court action if his Liverpool dispute is not resolved. say sources close to the player.
The 26-year-old believes Arsenal's bid of just over £40m triggered a clause in his contract that allows him to leave.

Liverpool rejected the offer and insist the clause does not force them to sell.

"We want to [sign Suarez] if it is feasible in an amicable way," said Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.
"We will respect what Liverpool want to do. I don't want to speak about Suarez, because that is between Liverpool and Arsenal.
"I am a great believer you have to keep as much confidentiality as possible, which is quite difficult in the modern world.
"But we work very hard, not only on the case you name, but on other different cases. We can still strengthen the squad, there is one month to go. We are at the beginning of August and working very hard to strengthen our squad.
"I am confident. You look at many teams around us. Nothing has happened until now. At the moment the market hasn't moved a lot. Apart from Manchester City, nobody has done anything."
Arsenal made their club-record offer of £40m plus £1 for Suarez in the belief that it would enable them to secure the Uruguay international's services.
Liverpool continue to insist that Suarez is not for sale.
It is understood that when Suarez signed a new contract in August 2012, he requested a clause that allowed him to depart if Liverpool failed to qualify for the Champions League and received a bid in excess of £40m.

Liverpool refused this but suggested an arrangement that obliged them to act in good faith if those conditions were met, which Suarez argues he only accepted because he felt there was verbal agreement from all parties that - despite the new wording - it would work in the same way as a release clause.
While Liverpool are confident that from a legal perspective their position stands up to scrutiny - and Suarez reluctantly agrees - the player is adamant the Reds have gone back on their word and feels let down.
He has informed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers of his desire to leave for Champions League football and the only proposal on the table is from Arsenal, with reported interest from Real Madrid failing to materialise.
Whereas Liverpool have not played in the Champions League since 2009 and missed out on European qualification altogether for next season, Arsenal will feature in the competition for a 17th consecutive campaign.
Sources close to Suarez say he will consider taking his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport  and he did go down a similar route when Dutch side Groningen turned down an offer from Ajax  for his services in 2007.
He scored 30 goals in 44 appearances for Liverpool last season but speculation has grown about his future since he was given a 10-match ban in April for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
Suarez, who joined Liverpool from Ajax for £22.7m in January 2011, still has to serve six games of that ban and was also suspended in 2011 after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
The Uruguayan made his first appearance since the Ivanovic incident last week in Liverpool's 2-0 friendly win over Melbourne Victory.

No surprise that the BBC piece is quote less .....'Sources close to Suarez' ,I would have thought sources close to Suarez would be the people at the
club. then again maybe they've interviewed his wife.  :D  ........sheer conjecture and speculation ,something the BBC are well renowned for.

Liverpool and in particular Ayre seem completely relaxed and convinced Suarez realises the situation ,and that's good enough for me ,maybe if
he puts in a transfer request the clubs position might alter ,but until that time its just guesswork from the media ,and the silence is killing them.

re suarez you just know he`s going to end up at arsenal, no doubt we`ll get the obligatory open letter in the echo saying there was nothing we could do blah blah blah.

No way. I just can't believe that. Even Ian Wright, in today's Evening Standard, is saying that LS should give LFC another season

I think for the time being at least we should leave the speculation to the media mate ,the club seem adamant they wont sell to Arsenal
so maybe we should afford them the benefit of the doubt ?

you do that if you want to mate, but imo we are not the type of club who holds disillusioned players to their contracts and it`s obvious that he wants out so barring a change of heart by suarez i can only see this ending one way.

Fair enough mate, but can you honestly see Suarez submitting a transfer request to sign for the Gooners ?   I honestly don't believe he will risk the wrath
of the supporters or for that matter the public and media condemnation which will no doubt follow for his hypocrisy.

I think it's quite clear that Suarez doesn't really care what people think and say at the end of the day - he certainly won't care about any wrath from anyone.

His history is clear and there for all to see - he has form so not sure why people think he would suddenly start worrying what people would think

He has spent all summer telling us he wants out and to be in a CL team - there isn't much left for him to say or do to ***** people off more. There has been a lot of denial in regards Suarez and I'm guessing the reality will hit when he is wearing a different shirt in September

Steven Gerrard has told Luis Suárez a better career move than Arsenal is inevitable – and submitted as evidence the revelation he rejected a chance to leave Liverpool for a Champions League club, believed to be Bayern Munich, only last summer.

The Liverpool captain is being honoured for his 15-year service with a testimonial against Olympiakos on Saturday, when Suárez is expected to play at Anfield for the first time since biting Branislav Ivanovic in April and subsequently publicising his desire to quit the club. Gerrard himself came close to leaving Liverpool, for Chelsea in 2004 and 2005, before deciding to remain with his boyhood team. That commitment did not prevent tentative enquiries from clubs such as Real Madrid in later years and, Gerrard confessed, another European team only 12 months ago while he was recovering from groin trouble.

"I had a chance to leave last year," said the England captain. "It was for a club in the Champions League, not a Premier League club, but I wasn't tempted. I've been through that before."

Gerrard refused to name the interested club but it is understood that it came from Bayern, who ended the season as European champions. Now Gerrard believes that that level of interest in a player then aged 32 should be instructive to Suárez. Arsenal are the only club so far to have bid for the disillusioned striker and Liverpool will not countenance selling the 26-year-old to a Premier League rival for £40m plus one pound.

The midfielder explained: "That is the message for Luis. Move on if you want, further down the line, but a player of his calibre should wait for the big one to come to him. He deserves to play for one of the best teams in the world, a Barcelona or a Real Madrid. They will come calling for him again. I am hoping from a biased point of view that he gives us another year and shows us the form he did last season. Maybe it will be time for him to go next year or the year after. I don't think it is the right time for him to go just yet."

Gerrard admits Liverpool's prospects of ending a four-year absence from the Champions League next season rests on the Uruguay international. "What we can achieve this season depends on whether he stays or goes in my opinion," said the midfielder, who fears the divide between Liverpool and the top four could become permanent without a recovery in the near future.

"That is my main worry," the 33-year-old admitted. "I think that is the main worry for every Liverpool fan. It is no different for me as a player. The only difference is that I am in a position to do something about it on the pitch. I am sure all genuine Liverpool fans have that same concern and worry – that it becomes permanent and we can't bridge that gap – but we've got to keep fighting.

"I have confidence from looking at the last six months of last season that we can prove people wrong and break into the top four. But certain things have got to happen to help us do that and one of them is the main subject on everyone's lips – Luis Suárez. If we lose him we are taking steps backwards. If we keep him and add to him we will have a much better chance."

Liverpool have bid £21.8m for the Atlético Madrid forward Diego Costa but, with several big money targets missed out on, Gerrard insists the club cannot afford to sell Suárez, who has three years remaining on his Anfield contract. He added: "Can you imagine the reaction if the club just allowed Luis to go and to go to one of our rivals? Imagine the reaction around here if they just gave in easy. I think the club are doing the right thing by wanting to keep their best players.

"Look at Tottenham's stance on Luka Modric and now Gareth Bale. They don't make it easy for sides who want their top players and we need to do the same. That sends out the right message to supporters. It shows the supporters we mean business, that we are capable of challenging, and the only way to do that is by keeping your top players."

Equally, Gerrard believes Liverpool have to demonstrate their intent to Suárez by landing major targets even in the absence of Champions League football and amid fierce competition. He said: "The club has a responsibility to attract top players and to make all our jobs easier in trying to get back in there. I know they are trying their best to do that but what we have to accept is that there are other big clubs out there offering big money, and if they bid more than you there is nothing you can do."

Olympiakos, against whom Gerrard scored a crucial goal en route to Liverpool's Champions League triumph in 2005, are playing the testimonial for free as the midfielder attempts to raise more than £1m for his charity. His former team-mates Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher will play some part in the game.

Personally I would have been much more excited about Lugano then Toure.  Lugano probably could have helped the Suarez situation as well.
