Come on he is a win at all costs street fighter and learned how to play in one of the poorest areas in Uruguay. He is no angel but he is entertainment personified. His character has got him to the top of his sport. To suggest that he is toxic to our name is an absolute exaggeration that the press would like everybody to believe. Embarrassing at times. Toxic never.

Yes he has a frustrating selfish streak and wastes opportunities but it still difficult to criticise somebody that has scored 51 goals in 96 games. The selfish bit is also partly as a result of Liverpool's relatively new contract policy to incentivise players for achievement. Luis's performance is mainly measured by the number of goals he scores. The more he scores the more he earns. When he hit a certain number of goals last season his weekly wage went up from £80k to £120k.

Devaney ,good post ,and I can understand why he is admired by some/most of our supporters but I got to disagree ,their are some types of players I don't like no matter their talent ,Ronaldo is one ,Zlatan is another ,Feliani and that wnker Balloteli...And scores of other ,All top of their Football skills that i can't relate too...I don't know in , Suarez I detect the same material..And i don't buy the "whole world is against us" defence ,he practiced the same tactics when he plays for Uruguay and for Ajax...That's what he is...so i'm not surprised he was "Soaking and Moaning" in our pre-season games..He wants out and I will not be the one standing in his way.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal still want to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

Wenger refused, however, to be drawn on the details of Arsenal's bid, insisting he wants to keep negotiations with Liverpool "amicable".

The Gunners are yet to land a big-name summer signing, despite chief executive Ivan Gazidis saying Wenger has "financial firepower" in the summer window.

Arsenal were linked with Gonzalo Higuain but he opted to join Napoli - Arsenal's Emirates Cup opponents on Saturday - from Real Madrid.

Wenger has made two bids for Suarez - the second being £40million plus £1, which was intended to trigger a clause that would allow them to discuss terms with the Uruguayan.

"We will completely respect what Liverpool wants to do. We want to (sign the player) if it is feasible in an amicable way."
Arsene Wenger
Liverpool insist that they intend to keep hold of the striker, who joined up with Brendan Rodgers' squad on the tour of Australia.

Wenger said: "I don't want to speak about Suarez, because that is between Liverpool and Arsenal. We will completely respect what Liverpool wants to do. We want to (sign the player) if it is feasible in an amicable way.

"I am a great believer you have to keep as much confidentiality as possible, which is quite difficult in the modern world.

Wenger keen on Suarez
"But we work very hard, not only on the case you name, but on other different cases."

Values important

Suarez is serving a domestic 10-game ban imposed by the FA for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic and he has previously served an eight-match suspension for racially abusing Patrice Evra.

Wenger said that if Suarez does become an Arsenal player, such behaviour will not be tolerated.

He said: "We have values that we want our players to respect. No matter where they come from, we will be very touchy on that of course.

"This club has built a reputation, not only during my period here but over 127 years, and the values that are very important for this club have to be respected by every player, no matter where he comes from. That will be with every potential signing."

--------------------------------------------------------

I'm quite relieved it's Arsenal who are only considered the main candidates now for his signature.

A particular poster on here was trying to convince everyone about Arsenal's "intent" and blowing smoke up their a.rse, while simultaneously ripping into BR & co for not doing the same as Arsenal - had we have done the same as Arsenal this summer we'd have currently signed one 20 yr old kid from France (I think) which, ironically would have been another reason to lambast Rodgers - buying cheap unproven talent.

I may have called this early which will leave egg on my face but I cannot see Arsenal getting Suarez - I don't think they are that ambitious. Hope I'm right.

Costa

The most universally hated footballer in world football or so we're told  ,opposing teams loathe him that much they spit in his face ,they
virtually kick him off the park whenever he's on the ball ,so subsequently he earns more free kicks than most in La liga.

Plus side..... he's a snarling beast of a player with still as yet untapped potential,he frightens the beejezus out of defences ,and his
zest to win is unsuppressed,oh and he struck up a formidable partnership with Falcao...... It seems if we manage to retain Luis
we may just have the most formidable strike force in the Premiership this season,if not, then definitely the scariest .

Rodger's seemingly looking to fill the team with fighters.

COS in light of recent events ,I too have my consternations ,but at least if we get the lad the media will still ensure the denigration of our club will go on to seemingly new heights.

Which is something I've learned to be comfortable with,I mean it just wouldnt sit right with me personally if they started collectively crawling up our arse:D

CostaheadcaseDiego

If anybody was under the illusion that the possible exit of Luis Suarez could signal quieter times at Anfield, the club's reported £20million-plus bid for Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa should banish those thoughts. The Brazilian does a decent line in off-the-ball drama himself. But he also has the potential to be a good fit for Liverpool.

On the first weekend of December, while Suarez was busy incurring another suspension of his own, Costa was involved in a derby-day drama with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos - headbutting his opponent before being spat at by the Spain international.

In February, Costa was once again on the receiving end - quite literally - when Antonio Amanya spat in his direction in a game against Real Betis. Later that month, the 24-year-old was the alleged antagonist as he was accused of racially abusing Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia. Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre is evidently a man feeling chilly in that frying pan.

Costa content at Atletico
While Costa denies that accusation, he readily admits that he becomes a different person when the whistle blows. "I change when I go on the pitch because that is where I have to give my all," the forward told Sky Sports. "Adrenaline gets hold of you or something winds you up because you want to play and win everything. Sometimes I go a little bit far but I don't think it is anything unusual."

If there is anything Brendan Rodgers' support of Suarez shows, it is that what Costa can do on pitch with the ball that really matters. And it is here that the signing does make some sense. While Radamel Falcao's heroics rightly earned the plaudits, Costa also scored 10 La Liga goals in his breakthrough campaign after impressing on loan at Rayo Vallecano the previous season.

Costa is more than just a goalscorer though, his bustling style also helping to set up Falcao as Atletico stormed to a top-three finish. Of the goalscorers to reach double figures in La Liga last season, Costa was one of only nine to also provide seven assists for his team - another being Reds new boy Iago Aspas.

This guy sounds like a mentalist.

Can't see him being bought to play with Suarez and sturridge - this sounds like he's Suarez's replacement to me, despite what the club or Rodgers may say. Hope I'm wrong.

Well he normally plays a bit deeper than the front line striker so he could easily play alongside both Sturridge and Suarez but I think the initial fears could be true
