For context we spent £18m on Johnson years ago.  CB is such an important position, if we get the right player then that fee would be worth it.

Totally agree - getting the right CB could help us get CL football

And....we are currently shocking at corners, both defending and attacking.  That has to be addressed and a new CB is central to that.

Exactly - it could solve our biggest problem.

Speculate to get the main prize

Brendan Rodgers apparently refused to comment on speculation we're interested in Rooney.

Crazy

Feck me, I didn't know Welsh Wizard was working for Yahoo Sport in New Zealand now.

In related news, Rooney is going to Chelsea.

Colleen is reported to have agreed terms with John Terry   :wwww

I'd love to sign Papadapalous but I'm hearing he's having trouble in his recovery from injury and it's taking longer than expected.

I have the same fears as well. The club has bad experience with signing injured players.

Apparently BMG (Atletico Mineiro sponsors) own a percentage of Bernard and also have links to Porto so expect a deal to be brokered for him to go there. He looks like he could be a very good player but again, I'm not convinced his ready for the premier league yet. Also his a very small lad and we are beginning to look a very short team in terms of height. Coutinho, Sterling, Aspas, Allen all below 5'10 and Lucus, Downing and Assaidi below 6ft. It's all good having this these small tricky players but in the premier league you've got to strike a balance other teams will just over power us, especially away from home

i dont think it makes any odds up front, as long as your defence and center mids can stand up to the physical battle it`s not a problem.
anyway we are talking about a wide forward here, the last winger that was a hard case was john morrisey from scottie!

For sure, you can have a couple of short players but just feel if you have to many, it's going to be a problem, obviously more so at set pieces which we defend as a team and not just rely on our defenders and say Gerrard to deal with them. The balance has to be right and at the moment I think we have our fair share of short players. I mean the likes of Coutinho, Allen, Sterling are below average height at around 5'6/5'7 and on top of that they are slight in build to. It would be a definite concern for me. Could maybe get away with it in say the Spanish or Portuguese league but a lot of teams in the prem do make it a physical battle and I think we are pretty poor at defending set pieces as it is and could struggle even more if we are lacking height around the pitch.

how many of those are regular starters in our first team though? coutinho is the only `nailed on starter` who is particularly short and the rest are around the 5`9 /5 ` 10 mark, infact the likes of gerrard, henderson, downing, sturridge, agger, carragher, johnson, enrique who were all regulars last season are 6 foot or over.
being a good header of the ball isnt really about height anyway, it`s about having the ability to time your jump and above everything else you have got to be brave, it takes some doing to sprint hard and then really throw yourself (and your head) at the ball, as anyone who has even played sunday league footy knows if a defender is doing the same thing as you and you both miss the ball and clash heads it can be nasty.
kevin keegan was about 5 foot 7 but was as good in the air as john toshack, thats because he was very athletic and very, very brave.

I think speed is power! I like small, fast, technically skilled players going against big, powerful, slow defenders. I think it is a mismatch in the forward's favour. Also I think the prem will deviate from physical play to more technical play with all the foreign players coming in. I think the FA will give referees new instructions about allowing good players to play. Having said that I think a good big man will generally beat a good little man. The problem is there are alot more good little guys than good big guys.
