Liverpool’s chase of Iago Aspas is STILL not complete, and a contractual dispute has threatened to derail the whole deal.

The Reds discovered on Friday that the agents with whom they had been negotiating Aspas’ transfer from Celta Vigo were not his contracted representatives.

The revelation lead to frantic phone calls between the Anfield giants' managing director Ian Ayre, Celta and Aspas’ official agent - with whom he has a contract until 2014.

Contrary to reports elsewhere, we can reveal that no deal has been struck between the clubs for the Spanish forward, but it is a question of days until an agreement is reached.

The deal is, however, likely to be held up by legal wranglings with the other agents possessing an authorisation document signed by the player in an attempt to hurry through his dream move to Merseyside.

All sides are keen to avoid a drawn-out legal saga, especially Liverpool, who want to get their summer transfer business done early - Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori is expected to sign next week.

Aspas' official agent has the backing of the Spanish football federation and Celta themselves.

With Liverpool now speaking to him directly, an accord should be struck by next weekend - provided the other agents agree to withdraw their claim to any proceeds from the move.

Jeezuz Christ !

The Reds discovered on Friday that the agents with whom they had been negotiating Aspas’ transfer from Celta Vigo were not his contracted representatives...........................................the other agents possessing an authorisation document signed by the player.

Does the club know if they're even negotiating for the genuine Aspas and not some midget in a gimp mask who just happens to be able to write ?

Might not always be fun at LFC but it's never dull.

I chose Liverpool over other offers, Aspas tells paper

Iago Aspas chose Liverpool over offers from Italy, Portugal and other countries, the Celta Vigo forward was quoted as saying on Saturday amid reports of his four-year deal with the English Premier League side.

"When I heard of Liverpool's interest I did not hesitate even for a minute," the 25-year-old was quoted as saying in Marca sports daily.

"It is one of the biggest clubs in the world and although I also had offers from Italy and Portugal and other countries I decided that my future was in English football."

Celta and Liverpool are putting the final touches to a deal that will see Aspas join the Premier League team for a fee of 8.5 million euros (7.1 million pounds) plus bonuses, Marca reported.

Aspas would earn 1.5 million euros a season, up from the 600,000 euros he was paid at Celta, the paper added.

"I am very calm but at the same time very excited because I am making a very significant step forward in my sporting career," he said.

Aspas helped set up the winner as Celta survived relegation on the final day of the season last weekend with a 1-0 home victory over Espanyol.

Born in Vigo, he is an idol to Celta fans, having come up through the youth ranks.

He is left-footed, fast and direct and can play through the middle, in a deeper role, or down the flank.

He was Celta's top scorer with 12 goals in La Liga this season, his first in the top-flight.
"We’ve got a lot of Cockneys in the team, but really, it doesn’t matter where they’re from – we’re all playing for Liverpool.” Robbie Fowler

I really like this Aspas fella. He seems to be skillful, but also had a tenacity and will to win that cannot be coached. Really pleased with our summer so far. Lets get in Ilori, papa, mchitkayran, and a proper left back and call it a day.

in todays pink echo it gives a brief synopsis of whats happening at the moment.
rodgers is back at his desk on monday, the players dont return for another 3 weeks.
club was stunned by suarez`s outbursts in uruguay, dont want the situation to rumble on all summer.
reina`s agent has told liverpool to expect a bid of around £8.5m from barcelona before the summer is out. If the keeper decides to leave the club wont stand in his way as he is earning in excess of £110,000 a week and the club think the money could be better spent elsewhere.
the club hopes to seal the deals for aspas and llori sometime next week.
toure has been brought in as defensive cover and llori is one for the future so we are still looking for a dominant CB, papadopolous is the clubs preferred target but negotiations with schalke have proved difficult as the german club want a lot more than we are offering. if impasse cant be broken soon club prepared to look elsewhere.
club hoping carroll will agree to a move to west ham to free up transfer funds but discussions over personal terms have become protracted and drawn out.

Seriously can't see FSG sanctioning a £6.5m+ deal for a 29 year old.

But are going to sanction £7mil plus for an unproven 25 year old ?

7mil plus for a 25 year old that clearly impressed in his first season in La Liga. Scoring more goals than £30mil plus players like Benzema (also 25 years old) despite being in a considerably weaker side. Not so bad.

I remember when Marcus Stewart topped the goal scoring charts once

Lots of players have impressed in one season - and many have done nothing since.

Oh and Benzema last season scored 12 league goals in just 19 starts for Madrid ( 21 goals in all comps )

arsenals CEO is talking a good game in this mornings paper, saying that now that they are over the worst of paying for the stadium their finances are in a very healthy position, he reckons that from now on in they can compete with almost anyone in the transfer market (i imagine their season tickets costing nearly £2,000  :Oo: helps them as well)
he himself mentioned rooney as a possible target but the paper seems to think benzema or higuain is more likely.
it`s going to be tough to get into that top 4 next year.

We said Aussie Style.

I trust BR's scouts. The players we are being linked with might not be the world superstars we all strive for but there is a good saying that "you can only p*ss with the c*ck you have" and out c*ck (aka budget) is not huge at the moment (may change if/when Suarez and Carroll move on) so we have to try and pick up what we can and work with it. Look at the success that is Sturridge and Coutinho for not huge amounts of £££.

Both Sturridge and Coutinho have a long way to go yet before being a success - Coutinho has made a good start and Sturridge has been good in patches but neither were unknown or unproven and still cost a lot if money

Thats two players that look ok out of 6 bought so far.

Money can be used as an excuse because we have spent Sh*t loads over the recent seasons - even
BR had a big budget to spend last season - it was just spent poorly overall.

I'm not extremely confident with signings like Toure , Aspas.
