In this article he said Liverpool can still attract the best players in the world. Let me ask him this, "To do that, don't you think the club needs CL football, winning trophies and with mega rich owners?" Do we have these critieria? None, period.
He seems to think just because we have the history and that would be enough. To hell with your history, world class players today are mercenaric and they demand CL football and cup glories not playing for a mid table side that you and FSG have put Liverpool into now.

There is no doubt that Ian Ayre is a complete idiot, also there is no doubt that we will not win the league until we get bought by a billionaire who is willing to pump £200million+ into the club, plus has the vision to appoint a top notch DOF and Chief Executive.
Isn't this the usual spiel that upper management are obliged to trot out in order to keep confidence high in the business? I would be stunned if any of the powers that be are anything less than totally aware of what is needed and the cost implications. From what I can see we're in the business of keeping us out of the press for the wrong reasons, restoring some faith in the club and making it more attractive for people to come and work at. I personally have no issue with that and think that they are doing a reasonable job on that front considering where we were a few years ago. Even looking at the H&G case that just hit the news, it was little less than a murmur and that's progress indeed imho.
Clearly we're setting a new culture in place that we're no longer a soft touch and won't be dictated to by players or agents anymore, which I have no issue with. The fact that we're not just doing this alone, but collectively moving to end the age of the sugar daddy owners with other premiership clubs is an interesting and smart move I think. In a negotiation you need to be believable that you will walk away from a deal and I think we set a precedent with Dempsey in the summer. That stands us in different stead for the negotiations now and will further do so in the 2013 summer window too. Combine that with encouraging players like Sterling to repay the faith and opportunity they have been afforded by proving themselves, I think we've turned a corner. It will be interesting to see how the Sneijder deal turns out because contrary to a lot of beliefs on here regarding FSG policy, they have always said there is money there for slightly older players if they are the right type of player needed.
A final note on the football scene today and the sugar daddy, look at what is happening at Chelsea now....turned down by top managers who don't want to deal with Abramovich, fans turning on the manager before he even arrives, star players being poorly treated due to bad performance, legends at the club being shown the door with little or no empathy....it's a clear picture for the working footballer too. The rewards are high, but the pressure is even higher. Positioning ourselves as a club who supports its' manager and players that are motivated for the club and not only profit could well bring us a competitive advantage in the next couple of decades. Chelsea is clearly falling apart, who knows what might happen to Man City, perhaps they go the same way when Mancini moves on. He doesn't strike me as someone there for a long haul, he'll make his point and then move somewhere else. Fergie is in his dotage now, the club will probably never see the likes of him again either. The chances of them following a similar path of confusion as we have since the boot room days is strong. we're entering into a new era of football I think and maybe, just maybe we're doing the right things ahead of others.
