Benny, LFC1990's completely right here. Using Champions League success as evidence of the Bundesliga's superiority to the Premiership makes no sense at all mate.

What would you use ? That's the competition where they meet on the pitch.

The state of the relative national football teams ? The state of the youth coming through ?

There is more money in the prem - it costs more to watch it. That's about it. The quality in the players and the football is far superior in the German league and teams currently at this time.

Why are you talking about last year ?

If you think Chelsea were the best team in Europe then you're even less knowledgable than first thought.

Winners don't always = best.

The Bundasliga is currently a better league than the prem

It's that reason why players like Reus won't suddenly leave Dortmund for a mid table team in the prem

What I mean is, if you compare the success of German teams and English teams in the CL in recent times, the English teams have done far better, so it actually argues for the Premiership rather than the Bundesliga.

When it comes to winning it then yes - when it comes to consistent performance over the last couple of years then Germany are close and maybe ahead.

It was only a couple days last night and on Tuesday but it was also the manner of the wins, the style , the players - everything just shows the quality in the German teams is screaming out - and they don't have to pay big bucks for it. IMO if every prem team played their relevant German team by position I think the Germans teams would come out on top in the majority of the games. The prem maybe exciting but that doesn't mean better.

you cant judge the relative strength of league`s over a couple of group games, you`ve got to look at it over a period of time.
english clubs have appeared in 7 of the last 8 finals where as bayern munich are the only german side to appear in a final in all that time, and even then they were beaten on their home ground by chelsea.
i do think english teams are probably as weak as they have been for a decade but i still wouldnt put it past united and chelsea going far in the tournament, when it comes to the crunch knock out games english teams seem to have a habit of getting the job done.
last season chelsea looked terrible in the early stages and when they were mullered by napoli it looked certain that they wouldnt even get out of their group, a few months later the same team beat valencia, barcelona and bayern on their home grounds.
personally i hope all the other english teams do $h1te in the CL but i know they probably wont.

So you still believe someone like Reus would leave Dortmund to go to Liverpool because we are Liverpool and play in the "prem"

We can debate the strengths of the two leagues, but when comparing CL achievements the English league wins hands-down.

When comparing leagues, its worthwhile to look at overseas and especially asia, the fees for TV rights. No one really bothers for bundesliga, EPL still commands the best for Pay TV operators.

Meaning that players who what to be watched by millions, will want to play in the epl.

This table might be useful for your debate even though you have hijacked ANOTHER thread by taking it off topic.

Are you suggesting that every team in the Bundesliga is better than the teams in the Premiership??
The only way to judge a league is to compare all the teams and find what the average level is. If you do this then I would imagine that the Premiership is the best league in the world by quite some distance.

I'm suggesting that the Bundesliga is a better league in terms of standard and quality of football being played. La Liga is also better than the prem. The prem in terms of quality and standard of football is overrated. Just because its exciting and full of money doesn't make it better quality.
