Uruguayan Olympian Gaston Ramirez is moving closer to a move to Liverpool after his agent admitted he was in talks with a Premier League club.

New Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his attacking options and the 21-year-old - who scored a sublime free-kick as Uruguay beat the United Arab Emirates 2-1 on Thursday - fits the bill perfectly.

Ramirez, who is rated at £20million by his club Bologna, has enjoyed two successful seasons in Serie A after leaving Penarol in his homeland in 2010.

The playmaker has no shortage of admirers - with Barcelona, Milan, Inter, Tottenham and both Manchester clubs all monitoring his situation - but Liverpool are thought to be in pole position.

‘Gaston is ready to leave Italy - so much so I am in England for talks with a Premier League club,’ agent Pablo Betancourt told Mercato.

‘He is one of the most important players in Uruguray, so there are no shortage of offers.’

Ramirez - capable of playing on either flank or behind the main striker - is Liverpool's No 1 target after they cooled their interest in Fulham's Clint Dempsey.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a €20m offer for Bologna’s Uruguayan talent Gaston Ramirez.

According to the Sunday Express, Liverpool have set their sights on the young creative midfielder.

Ramirez is wanted by the likes of Inter, Juventus and Arsenal, but Bologna have set a €25m price-tag.

Liverpool are the first club to go even close to that valuation with €20m, so negotiations are expected to whittle down the difference.

The 21-year-old is currently in London on international duty with the Uruguayan Olympic squad.

Ramirez was signed by Bologna from Penarol in August 2010 for around €3m.

Ah, so abusive and insulting language is A-OK so long as you're the one who's dishing it out, but when RichardLFC1 and RogerRedHat use similar language against you, it suddenly becomes a mark of how childish and inane they are. Likewise, when another poster accuses you of being a racist or a member of the BNP, you repeatedly demand an apology, but it's absolutely fine for you to make derogatory remarks about other posters that include references to their national or regional identity; 'internet foreign fans', and the latest 'thick North east tw.at'. Another 'joke', presumably? Cue pictures of cats and jizzing of pants.

Since when did it become necessary to try to "beat" fellow Liverpool supporters and what's the prize for winning?  ???

There is no prize - maybe we can all take it in turns on your high horse every time we insult someone.

Aaanyway... rumors saying that Ramirez is about to have a medical and he will be confirmed as our signing today. Though I would love it if we sign him, I'm with Benny on this on, I don't think Ramirez will be joining us and that all these are just rumors.

Or maybe not, because you're a'rse is already firmly ensconced in that particular saddle.

What I was curious about, though, is this need you feel to try to 'beat' fellow Liverpool supporters because that's probably the source of your problem. You don't try to 'beat' someone without feeling as though you have something to gain, and I'm wondering what that is and how insulting or abusing fellow Liverpool fans helps you to achieve it? It's certainly something for you to think about whilst you're patrolling the boards  :)

:D I translated it wrong. It says that he already has had a medical and that it will be official soon (not necessarily today) for a price of 18.5 mill (doesn't say euro or pounds, I'm guessing euro). Still think it's bs though.

Or maybe it's not

I'll stop insulting posters when they stop insulting me, I do believe you also joined as well in the Euro 2012 thread when we had a discussion over Gerrard

You keep that horse for yourself pal.
