Chelsea have spent £30+ on Hazard and are about to sign Oscar for £25m. Spurs have £40-50m to spend plus the Modric money. Arsenal have money to burn but the manager chooses not to spend it. United aren't short of a few quid. We are currently light years away from properly challenging for the very best players available when you consider our resources.

I at least expect the fans to be realistic like the manager is when it comes to signing players. Past mistakes mean that there's no way we're going to attract "world class" players as you put it.

we still have some top players at the club and if we bring in a couple of suarez quality signings we could be in the mix again. it would also send out the message that we are still an ambitious club looking to compete at the top end of the game. yeah okay our owners got their fingers burnt in the transfer market but what top club hasnt? it wasnt as if every penny of that money came out of their own pockets most of it came from the sale of torres, babel, ngog etc.
to me it looks like they are trying to extract as much profit out of the club as they can with the least possible investment. great business model but i`m not sure you can be a top club these days with that stratedgy.
it takes a bit of a leap of faith to believe that signing mid table 21 and 22 year olds for 8 or 9 million and a 29 year old from fulham are the first steps on our journey back to the top.
according to people who study these things the owners apparently got us on the cheap and even though they laid out £30m in transfers they have saved a similar amount by reducing the wage bill. maybe it`s time they invested some of their hard earned into the `business`, rodgers is their man, they should have enough faith in their own judgement to give the fella at least a fighting chance of succeeding by backing him in the transfer market.

But that is always going to be the case with american owners. $$$ 1st, the rest 2nd. They always buy to make money out of something, the main reason I dislike their approach to life.
A football club is about results, trophies and if they can break even finacially, then fine. But over the pond the mental attitude is totally different.

I don't really know anything about this player, but hopefully, if indeed true -that he has agreed terms...- then welcome to him and lets hope he can bring much needed depth and creativity from whichever position he plays.

Who knows. A bit of an unknown. Made a name for himself at Swansea on loan not much else.
Just hope it turns out better than our last italian from Roma...

Watched him a couple of times during his loan spell at Swansea and seem to recall him being a very nimble, technical player as well as something of a free-kick specialist.

More on Borini:

The striker was loaned out to Swansea where he scored six goals in 12 matches, Parma than decided to bring Borini back to Italy in the summer of 2011 before loaning him out to Roma, who had just embarked on a new project with Luis Enrique at the helm.

Under the Spaniard, Borini developed his game even further and, despite fierce competition from Roma’s vast array of attacking talent, the young striker grabbed the many chances he was offered to exhibit his talent. His undeniable technique, his work off the ball and his pressing game proved invaluable for Roma and his devastating performances against Claudio Ranieri’s Inter side and Palermo allowed his team to accumulate much needed points at a time in which they were fighting for a spot in Europe.

So what can he bring to Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side? Fiercely competitive and eager to impose himself, Borini is curiously calm under pressure and hardly ever intimidated regardless of the amount of stars he has played alongside. Aware of his quality, his insatiable right foot and the ability to score goals, he finished last season as Roma’s second highest goal-scorer.

...

Borini's eye for a goal and his great finishing demanded attention. “At Chelsea, Ancelotti defined me as a nuisance like [Filippo] Inzaghi,” he recalls. Displaying the same hunger for goal and the same lethality in the box, Borini was a little Inzaghi but to describe him as just a goal scorer is simply an injustice.

Tactically flexible, the ex-Chelsea player can play any position in attack, on the left, through the middle or on the right. He can play as the centre forward or as a second striker as he can exploit his pace and willingness to uncover space when deployed in a more withdrawn role. Additionally, his sacrificial nature sees him eager to provide for the side when out of possession whilst statistically, he produced more tackles than any other attacking player for Roma last season.

We beat Chelsea home and away
We beat arsenal at the emirates
We drew with city utd and tottenham at home

Where we have problems is in the fact that we lost to Bolton drew to Blackburn at home.

Swansea took 4 points off us fulham took all 6 just like Blackpool the year before.

We have 7 players who would get into most teams in Reina Skrtle Agger Johnson Lucas  Gerrard and Suarez.

I don't want to make excuses but Suarez missed 9 games through suspension Lucas over half the season through Gerrard was in and out and Agger has never completed a year with us

We just need a bit of luck

If 37 points isnt light years ahead what the f*ck is

The Borini Deal could be completed sometime today. Just watched a few videos on him and looks pretty decent. Couple things i like about him he likes to use both feet his movement is amazing and he is pretty strong.

Hopefully we get the deal done ASAP so he can get a full pre season.

Also a few rumours going round concerning Carroll -Dempsey Adam- Dempsey Carroll- Ba player plus cash deals

If we sign Dempsey, I'd think we'd want to do so before we head to North America.  A lot of Americans really like Dempsey and would love to see him in the red shirt, and I'm sure a lot would buy his kits while at the game as well.

Rumours appeared to have dried up since we've tied up the Borini deal. What's the deal with Adam Johnson? Does the person who's in the know have any more updates? Wouldn't mind Dempsey if it meant swap deal for Adam but would rather take Joe Allen at Swansea if we're buying someone outright for the middle.  Part of me thinks we need a slighter bigger name just to wet the appetite/ instill confidence and someone like Johnson or an equivalent creative foreign player would fit the bill nicely
