Just how good is Gaston Ramirez? Has anyone watched him regularly? From the YouTube clips I've seen, he appears to lose the ball quite a bit, £15m for him seems a bit steep for him imo. I'd rather take Sturridge & Johnson combo if we can get them at a good price.

Seen him play quite a bit.  He's about ten miles ahead of anyone in our squad (aside from Suarez) regarding creativity and ball skills.  Would easily walk into our starting XI.  The lad is top class.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Yea I've watched him a decent amount as well.  His skill is a somewhat similar style to Suarez.  He's really good on the wing and taking people on, and he's got a really decent shot.  I'd be thrilled if he signed with us but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

I would be happy with 4 new signings but as time goes on that many looks less likely:

Another DM : Lass Diarra (available at a reasonable price)

2 of these wingers : Hoillett, Affelay, A. Johnson or Walcott (with Downing and Sterling, Bellamy as 4th choice striker)

Another striker : Luuk De Jong

Gaston Ramirez to Liverpool FC rumours wide of the mark

by Neil Jones, Liverpool Echo
Jul 9 2012

LIVERPOOL FC are not preparing a move for Bologna midfielder Gaston Ramirez currently, despite numerous reports to the contrary this weekend.

The Reds have long been linked with the 21-year-old Uruguayan, who looks set to depart the Serie A outfit this summer.

And rumours had circulated in Italy over the past few days that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was readying a £16m move for the former Penarol man, and that talks between the two clubs could take place this week.

However, the ECHO understands that Liverpool have been left bemused by such reports, and that the club have not made any formal move for Ramirez, nor are they preparing to.

Ramirez, who is also rumoured to be interesting Napoli and Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, is a player Liverpool are aware of, having scouted him extensively over the past 18 months.

The left-footed attacking midfielder was identified by Damien Comolli, the club’s former director of football, as a potential target earlier this year, and tentative enquiries were made during the winter transfer window.

However, with both Comolli and Kenny Dalglish having departed the club, the Reds’ interest looks to have cooled, with Rodgers and his staff busying themselves pursuing a number of other targets.

Fulham forward Clint Dempsey is another name that has been linked over the weekend, with Sunday reports suggesting a £10m bid could be in the offing for the 29-year-old American.

Again, however, the ECHO understands that such reports are wide of the mark. Dempsey, who scored 23 goals for the Cottagers last season, is a player Rodgers rates, but no approach has been made by the Reds yet.

One player who could be set to depart Anfield, meanwhile, is Alberto Aquilani, with Turkish side Fenerbahce the latest club linked with the Italian midfielder.

Aquilani, who turned 28 on Saturday, is yet to return to Merseyside after a loan spell at AC Milan last season, having been allowed time off to get married last week. The former Roma man has said recently he expects to start pre-season with the Reds, but it is believed Liverpool would be willing to offload the £17m man for a knock-down fee if possible.

Honestly dont think Rodgers was intrested in ramirez. I know Kenny and comolli were admirers but when they left i think so did the plans to buY gaston.

Rodgers has links everywhere it seems and also likes to play his cards close to his chest. Its very frustrating being a Liverpool fan in regards to transfers especially as we seem to be linked with every player on the planet and when Spurs sign Vertognen Siggurdsson, Chelsea get Marin and Hazard, Arsenal buy podolski and giroud and Utd Sign Shinji Kagawa.

However I think the way rodgers is playing it will be the right move. He clearly has his targets and will persue when he and the board are ready. I dont think weve missed out on anyone yet bar Sigurdsson which i still believe we didnt rate him that highly hence the reason we never upped the wages.

Also we have to take into consideration the fact that Rodgers wants/needs to evaluate his squad especially as so many were away on internaional duty.

@BenSmithBBC
Off camera, Rodgers said ‪#LFC‬ fans would find one potential new player 'incredibly exciting' - 'they'll love him'
