Who said anything about spending loads of money ?

Do you not realise that to get the better players you need to pay the wages required and fees required - players don't go to clubs for any offer reason.

You do realise that when we were competitive in the CL we were paying the wages and the fees required.

i think the bottom line is he's not worth 50k a week in BR eyes that why we put in clauses.

if BR wanted him that bad i hope he has the funds to pay those wahes if he wanted to match the offer. Lets just hope that's the case and not that he's being held back

Let's hope the Adam Johnson deal pulls through. I would really like Luciano Narsingh as well. He didn't play at all for the Dutch in the Euros but he's a top prospect.

As for that Icelandic international, who cares. It's only when the rumors begun that people starting noticing him.

Most of our first team squad is probably on 50k a week or more. Its not like his wages would break the bank. We have players that sit on the bench and earn twice that. If we are looking for players that will improve our first team squad this season we have to be prepared to pay that kind of wages.

Havent seen enough of Sigurdsson to say he is worth it, but I really though we would go for players that would improve our first team. We have enough decent squad players, with the possible exception of a better sub for lucas.

Do you mean like all the successful clubs do.

Every footballer is overpaid - i hope you havent just realised that.

There is one crucial point you will fail to realise - to get the better players to improve the squad we will have to pay the fees and wages - if we go low and play hardball then they walk away to a club that will pay the wages they want. Its the way of football in the modern world - money talks.

Just ask your boy Johnson and ask him why he signed that lengthly lucrative contract which increased his wages massively. The same reason he will stay at City collecting those wages.

When a club is considering a deal it has a value in its own mind relative to how important the player
will be to the team overall.

I would guess we had an interest in Gylfi at a certain price but when a bidding war kicked in the cost
rose way above importance for us and so when the value went we cooled on the deal and the lad
went to Spurs who feel hes worth it to them.

Given the player had a good working relationship with Rodgers you can only assume that had we
matched the Spurs deal he would have come here but we simply were not prepared to do that.

Just a gut feeling on the Sig thing, if BR really wanted him, he'd have gotten him.  I don't think the owners would have had a problem with it at all.  They would however have a problem with adding a 10th (on the offal's first team list we have 9) Central Midfielder.  Numbers wise (not financial numbers mind you) signing Sig currently made little sense.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

So why did Johnson sign a 5 year contract which increased his wages only 6 months ago.

You can ignore reality and facts as much as you want.

Just to jog your memory here is the newspaper report about the new contract and doubling his wages to 80 grand a week

Especially when people like Cole and sicknote are both on 80 grand plus wages

I agree with Benny here, we did show a proper intent to sign the lad and it seems that a more lucrative contract was what beat us in the end.

It seems that we're trying to reduce the wage structure by a lot. That's al good but the problem is that we have players who are earning much much more than those who are coming in to the new wage structure that FSG wants to implement. Aquilani, Cole, they're strictly OK players, probably in the same league as Gylfi, but they came in at a time where our wage structure was very different. This has to obviously influence the decision of a player like Sigurdsson who may not like being a half the salary of someone of similar quality/use to the team. No one would tbh.

Sigurdsson didn't join us because a) we paid him less, but more importantly b) we paid him much less than players at similar potential/talent as him.

Buy young policy also has a lot to do in enforcing the new wage structure as well. Younger players should in general be agreeable to lower wages. The only way for the new wage structure to get put in place is for us to sell off as many players on the old wage structure as soon as possible. That's why players like Aquilani, even if they may be useful to the team, are being dished out to buyers.
