The problem with Kenny is Kenny already had the foundations of a quality team prior to last summer, he then went and brought the wrong calibre of player and Comolli was all too happy for pay extortionate fees for their services. Kenny had the blueprint of a very good side, however he decided to rip that up and try and rubber stamp his mark on the team and as a result we went from 6th to 8th. Also Kenny handled the Suarez situation badly, I think that was another reason why they chose to sack him.
If Martinez can come in, bring in a better quality of footballer than Kenny, ship out the deadwood and have us playing good football which is equally matched by good results and we finish much closer to 4th, then I feel Martinez will be given more time and more investment. It's essential that Martinez does not regress next season, but has us progressing nicely.
I did support Hodgson initially, he lost my support with his constant downplaying of expectation, his morose and negative comments in the media. He love-fest with Fergie made me sick, his constant snipes at Rafa Benitez and his lack of understanding of why us supporters were against Hicks and Gillett. I would have still been prepared to stick by Roy Hodgson like I did with our previous managers, had he not done any of those things. I remember when we lost 1-0 to Wolves, Roy had another snipe at us supporters and that's when I found myself unable to continue to support Roy which was ashame.
for me their is far too many uncertainties regarding martinez, can he handle the pressure, has he got the mentality and the ability to get the respect from the players, can he turn it around in a year or 2.i dont hate the guy or anything but the only reason he is being considered is for his pr skills and that will also be tested over the season if the results dont stack up.standing expressionless on the sideline with your arms folded when your being thumped off the park isnt going to go down well here.
who knows he could be the next fergie in the making but its nothing more than a gamble were taking and based on the experience of the man in question it might not pay off.
i was never excited at all when hodgson was appointed and it soon became clear he was well out of his depth.like you say his downplaying of expectations, pops against rafa and the fans while supporting the muppets is what made most fans turn on him.im delighted he has the england job because he's out of his depth there also and the panning he got here is nothing to what he will get.
if martinez gets the appointment its important he doesnt make similar mistakes and he's about to take over one of the biggest clubs on the go so he needs to adopt a winning mentality to match that and step up to the plate.
ive said before that he shouldnt even be considered for this role but i will support him if he gets it like i have any other manager before him.
