These guys need to sell newspapers. There's no real football news right now, so they simply make it up. Always have, always will.

I'll be happy if we can get Van Gaal in as well, an experienced head to work alongside Martinez could be a success

Yes his height !! And he is a small person within the football world but likes the sound if his own voice

Would have thought from that description that you and he would have got on like a house on fire. Surprised that you earlier described him a a "gobsh'ite", apart from the money you seem to have so much in common.   :nod

Martinez should be given time, patience and the investment he needs to bring in the players he needs. The problem with Kenny is Kenny already had the foundations of a quality team prior to last summer, he then went and brought the wrong calibre of player and Comolli was all too happy for pay extortionate fees for their services. Kenny had the blueprint of a very good side, however he decided to rip that up and try and rubber stamp his mark on the team and as a result we went from 6th to 8th. Also Kenny handled the Suarez situation badly, I think that was another reason why they chose to sack him.

If Martinez can come in, bring in a better quality of footballer than Kenny, ship out the deadwood and have us playing good football which is equally matched by good results and we finish much closer to 4th, then I feel Martinez will be given more time and more investment. It's essential that Martinez does not regress next season, but has us progressing nicely.

I did support Hodgson initially, he lost my support with his constant downplaying of expectation, his morose and negative comments in the media. He love-fest with Fergie made me sick, his constant snipes at Rafa Benitez and his lack of understanding of why us supporters were against Hicks and Gillett. I would have still been prepared to stick by Roy Hodgson like I did with our previous managers, had he not done any of those things. I remember when we lost 1-0 to Wolves, Roy had another snipe at us supporters and that's when I found myself unable to continue to support Roy which was ashame.

This is precisely the business model that FSG are striving for and I believe it will take shape, but it's not going to be a five year jobby, it's going to take as long as it takes. We should be thankful we have such good owners and I believe they'll make us successful, there is little reason to think otherwise, those who are turning on FSG are extremely upset that a club legend has been sacked, but they need to face facts that Kenny's first full season in management wasn't brilliant and we regressed in the league when improvement was needed. Kenny has no-one else to blame, but himself and I am sure the great man would say so as well. It's time to get behind FSG's project and see where it leads. Those who care panicking and who are getting angry need to calm down and wait to see what happens, instead of worrying themselves sick with the worst possible outcomes.

That's a bit old, Thommo's Perm, it wasn't funny the first time you made that joke and it's not funny now. Don't quit your day job (if you actually have a job).

Found a comment by a Swansea fan on a "Belfast Telegraph" article. I found it interesting to see how they evaluate Martinez and Rodgers. It also says a lot about how other people view the way FSG is working -

"Liverpool have been without a manager for a little over a week and the owners did state they would take their time appointing a new one.

Dalglish only survived so long due to accumilated good will - what good would it be letting him stay in charge to waste another season's transfer budget?

I'm a Swansea fan, but I don't think Brendan would be a success at Liverpool - he was only able to enjoy instant success with us because Roberto Martinez and Paulo Souza had us playing more-or-less in our current style anyway; Rodgers didn't have to build a team or identity from scratch, he's just tweaked what was already in place.

Yes he's done a fine job, but building a team from the ground up, as is needed at Liverpool, is a whole different challenge.

But that aside, I can't understand why The Spirit of Shankly group or this particular reporter think the current situation at Liverpool is 'a shambles' - FSG seem to be proceding on an entirely sensible basis. If it drags on for a few more weeks then it'd be a valid viewpoint - for now it's just utter nonsense."

Which would leave us with a toss up between AVB and Martinez and aslong as Van Gaal is appointed as Sporting director i wouldnt be too fussed who ever took over.

Martinez likes to play nice football and with players like Gerrard and Suarez in the side i think his management style would be a success

AVB a more experienced man and a more of a winning man. I think he would like/ Need more money in the transfer market. Would like to put his own spin on things.

We can Rule Rafa out if Van Gaal is appointed as it would be a pandamonium

I agree with you mate, Van Gaal + Martinez might just work out quite nicely.

Yep - I can see this working too. Guardiola's first job .. Barcelona !

Martinez could be just what we need.  :nod

I'm not too sure. I don't believe in having a DOF to begin with. Plus Van Gaal has said in an article on Soccernet that he is interested in the manager's job itself so there's too much potential of conflict of interests from the very start.

The only real concern is the potential for conflict. I want them to work together for the same cause rather than having different priorities, ideals, or ideas. If we want a player I want there to be a defined reason why and ideas on how he can be used from the off and none of this trying to figure it out type puzzle we've had this season. I'm not a massive fan of a DoF but I don't particularly trust Martinez to take the reigns on his own straight away, Van Gaal gives me that little bit of assurance - maybe I'm being optimistic but I've always been one for the red tinted specs
