I'm not too sure. I don't believe in having a DOF to begin with. Plus Van Gaal has said in an article on Soccernet that he is interested in the manager's job itself so there's too much potential of conflict of interests from the very start.

The only real concern is the potential for conflict. I want them to work together for the same cause rather than having different priorities, ideals, or ideas. If we want a player I want there to be a defined reason why and ideas on how he can be used from the off and none of this trying to figure it out type puzzle we've had this season. I'm not a massive fan of a DoF but I don't particularly trust Martinez to take the reigns on his own straight away, Van Gaal gives me that little bit of assurance - maybe I'm being optimistic but I've always been one for the red tinted specs

Would rather see someone who has been a DOF all along, with no managerial experience, be the DOF. Someone like Txixi (sp) formerly of Barca. At least it's safer and there won't be any boardroom politics.

It could be the dream team Reginald
The old, experienced Dutchman and the new, inexperienced Spaniard
Massive gamble from FSG on our behalf so fingers crossed

what kind of time frame do you think he should be allowed to turn it around?.
also did you support hodgson and are you of the belief that he should be still here?

Martinez should be given time, patience and the investment he needs to bring in the players he needs. The problem with Kenny is Kenny already had the foundations of a quality team prior to last summer, he then went and brought the wrong calibre of player and Comolli was all too happy for pay extortionate fees for their services. Kenny had the blueprint of a very good side, however he decided to rip that up and try and rubber stamp his mark on the team and as a result we went from 6th to 8th. Also Kenny handled the Suarez situation badly, I think that was another reason why they chose to sack him.

If Martinez can come in, bring in a better quality of footballer than Kenny, ship out the deadwood and have us playing good football which is equally matched by good results and we finish much closer to 4th, then I feel Martinez will be given more time and more investment. It's essential that Martinez does not regress next season, but has us progressing nicely.

I did support Hodgson initially, he lost my support with his constant downplaying of expectation, his morose and negative comments in the media. He love-fest with Fergie made me sick, his constant snipes at Rafa Benitez and his lack of understanding of why us supporters were against Hicks and Gillett. I would have still been prepared to stick by Roy Hodgson like I did with our previous managers, had he not done any of those things. I remember when we lost 1-0 to Wolves, Roy had another snipe at us supporters and that's when I found myself unable to continue to support Roy which was ashame.

for me their is far too many uncertainties regarding martinez, can he handle the pressure, has he got the mentality and the ability to get the respect from the players, can he turn it around in a year or 2.i dont hate the guy or anything but the only reason he is being considered is for his pr skills and that will also be tested over the season if the results dont stack up.standing expressionless on the sideline with your arms folded when your being thumped off the park isnt going to go down well here.
who knows he could be the next fergie in the making but its nothing more than a gamble were taking and based on the experience of the man in question it might not pay off.
i was never excited at all when hodgson was appointed and it soon became clear he was well out of his depth.like you say his downplaying of expectations, pops against rafa and the fans while supporting the muppets is what made most fans turn on him.im delighted he has the england job because he's out of his depth there also and the panning he got here is nothing to what he will get.
if martinez gets the appointment its important he doesnt make similar mistakes and he's about to take over one of the biggest clubs on the go so he needs to adopt a winning mentality to match that and step up to the plate.
ive said before that he shouldnt even be considered for this role but i will support him if he gets it like i have any other manager before him.

It's kinda amusing that no other club in the world is linked with Martinez. No mention of him being next inline to the Old Trafford throne, or taking over from Guardiola at Barcelona. No mention of him taking the England job before Woy did. Nahhhhhhhhhh...none of that. Our american owners though who seem to have little knowledge of football have apparently spotted something in Roberto Martinez that no other club (other than the mighty Wigan Athletic) or nation has spotted. Good on 'em!

If he gets the job I will support him, but dang I hope he knows what he's doing. If this gamble goes tits up, we're f*cked.

Not entirely true. Many journalist now are reporting that Martinez is in Miami not for a Liverpool interview but in fact an Aston Villa interview via Randy Lerner's residence.

I've had a slight shift of opinion on this whole restructuring scenario. It's still a gamble, but perhaps a different one to what I first thought. The way FSG seem to be setting up might in fact mean that once the inevitable cross-breeding of english football and american soccer is well under way, it might in fact leave us miles ahead of the game. If it works out, then all the other clubs are gonna be left behind as Liverpool FC fly off into the modern game.  If the gamble fails though then we'll be screwed up, I imagine. It's an interesting thought, and if football MUST go this way, (which I truly believe it is) then i'd be happy that we were in on the ground floor.

@Moose_talkSPORT: Reports Roberto Martinez is in Miami - I am lead to believe it's for talks with Randy Learner over a move to Aston Villa NOT Liverpool FC

looks like it`s martinez and apparently he`s told FSG that he wants total control over the team and signings, he`s told them that as manager it`s his head on the block and he`ll be the one that goes if it all turns pear shaped so quite understandably he wants to be the one calling the shots.
in other words you can hire as many DoF`s as you want but keep them away from first team affairs.
he`s gone up a bit in my estimation for that anyway.
after finishing 6th, 7th and 8th in our last 3 seasons and considering he is going to be our 4th manager in 2 years i would have prefered a bigger name and someone with more experience of competing at the top of the table rather than a perennial relegation fighter but FSG have decided thats the road they want to go down.
on the bright side as a bevvying partner of ferguson i suppose he can always phone him up and ask his advice if things arent going well
