Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Does anyone know when the pre-season tour starts (is there one) ?, as a new manager will, imo, need to be in place at least 3 to 4 week prior to that to ensure he is up to speed on all things LFC. Owners need to move fast  from all angles.

Wigan fan if you hadn't already guessed. Hope you don't mind my opinion.
First off, I don't want Martinez to go due to the last three months of the season. To beat all the top clubs and break so many records doing so was amazing, so I want to see if he can do that over the whole season.
I believe it has taken him three seasons to get us to this position and a fealing that next season we could push on, with players like Moses etc signing new contracts.
The problem Liverpool will face, if you see it as that, is Martinez insisting on a certain type of play. This is great when accomplished, but to get to that stage will and does take a long time. Would Roberto Martinez get three years free to build his own team and style?
Before Roberto can manage a team like Liverpool, he needs to go further with Wigan. If next season Wigan perform all season like they end the season, then I would say go for it, he's learned.
To be honest with you, a lot of Wigan fans had been wanting him sacked before he turned it around. Some horrendous results including 8 and 9 goal humiliations were the lowest point of my time as a supporter. Paul Jewell and Steve Bruce had Wigan in the top 10, until Roberto Martinez at least emulates that he cannot be considered for a job like Liverpool. 8 years in The Premier League means Roberto has been responsible for less than half our Premiership life and every one under him has been a relegation fight.
I would find it so strange if he did get The Liverpool Job, I really would.
If he does become the Liverpool manager I certainly wouldn't hold it against him, couldn't turn that opportunity down. Turning down Villa is one thing, but Liverpool is something else.

Good luck who ever you get

i`m praying we dont get him tbh mate.
dont get me wrong i think he comes across as a great fella and one of the genuine nice guys in the game, i always enjoy listening to him if he`s on the spanish footy or the europa league as a pundit and for a foreigner his english and his syntax is great, unlike rafa who often came out with wierd cod english / spanish sayings listening to martinez speak is like listening to a british fella speak with a slightly strange accent.
i also admire the way his sides always try to knock the ball around, it`s not easy to do that especially in the lower divisions (when he was at swansea) or when you are in a relegation fight.
i think he has all the makings of a really, really good manager but no offence to wigan but there is a huge diffence between managing wigan and managing liverpool.
maybe at another point in our history we could have taken a gamble on him but we are at a crossroads ourselves as a club, it was only 2 years ago that we were a day away from going under, this club and its fanbase have been through a civil war over the past 4 years, our next manager will be our 4th in 2 years, prior to that we had 4 in 20 years! this now is our 3rd year out of the champions league and the wrong appointment now could really set us back. i dont think this is the time to gamble on a young up and coming manager i think we need someone who is solid and reliable.
most fans want benitez back because you know what you are going to get with rafa, he may not win the league or even qualify for the champions league but there is no way in hell that a benitez side loses 14 games in a season, even if he took over wolves they wouldnt lose that many.
benitez is a master at making teams hard to beat.
that for us at the moment is guarenteed progress and thats what we need at the moment.
hodgson and dalglish arent $h1te managers, if it can go pear shaped for them here it can certainly go pear shaped for an inexperienced manager too.
thats why i dont want a martinez or a rodgers at this point in our history.

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing

Martinez won 4 games in 6 months

Kenny won 4 league games in 4 and half months. Not much better really, especially when you consider the players he had at his disposal where much better.

Liverpool fans are believed to be underwhelmed by the prospect of Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez taking charge at Anfield.

The Mail on Sunday claims Liverpool fans have rounded on the club's decision-makers for considering the Latics manager as replacement for Kenny Dalglish.

Supporters abused managing director Ian Ayre at a race meeting at Aintree on Friday night and chanted the name of previous Anfield boss Rafael Benitez.

The general response from the club's followers does not auger well for Martinez should he take the job, particularly given Roy Hodgson's ill-fated time at Anfield.

It seems the natives are already becoming restless .

It doesn’t but it just highlights why the owners where so frustrated and why many fans think the decision was in the best interests of the club.
