with all the new homegrown rules its a must anyway.

Unai Emery is on his way out from Valencia, and I've heard a strong rumour that he has an offer from England. From that some speculation has arised and some say it might be Liverpool.

IMHO I hope the crowd of Liverpool is not split because of the manager. Because the biggest problem of the club is not the manager, but the financial crisis, like the one described in the 50M losses thread.

Meaning, Emery is a good manager, no doubt, he was able to keep a big level in Valencia with a lot less money and letting go the likes of Silva, but I'm afraid that I disagree those who think that the current manager is bad, or think that a good manager will solve all the problems. It's the players you have what makes a team work. Give Messi, Alonso and Gerrard to Hodgson, and his football will be good, if you see what I mean. It's money what is more concerning. With no money, there is no big players, and nowadays elite football is about money. Manchester City proves it, Barcelona and Madrid proves it. If you have the money, you can fight. I say this because I wouldn't like a legend like Kenny Dalglish receiving too much stick while that fact is forgotten.

Not connected with us but Shinji Kagawa will apparently sign for the mancs for about 8 mill.

I hope not... Kagawa looks a player.

Yes he is, he was able to keep third Valencia even if his squad lost many important players like Silva. The kind of thing Liverpool needs now. To be squad that is able to enter the top four, without being the strongest economically.

The situation would be similar, Valencia's debt is very high.

The problem of Liverpool is that their history is much bigger than Valencia's (see silverware). The good thing of Liverpool is that the crowd has more patience than in Valencia (if in Valencia they'd see their team 7th, there would be riots).

But basically Emery did in Valencia what it should be done here, being right with the transfers after selling big players, and pose a competition without so much money.

About the posting a bit, I do miss you guys, but I'm more a slave than a worker these days. No time to watch online the games, but watching them later    But at the end of the storm there's a golden sky, so that's my hope. 

Good to see you back here Sabre. When I saw Sabre had posted here for a minute I thought maybe the rumor would be that Rafa is coming back and he's bringing Xabi with him.

I was a Rafalite, yes.    But I haven't followed much Benitez since then, nor Alonso. But Rafa had mistakes, and one of them was Alonso, he put him in the transfer market for a price that was too low for the quality of the player, and the player eventually was fed up with the manager's constant instructions.

I don't think Rafa will be back, and if he's back, I don't think we should expect to be in the top four and champions league semifinals without money.

As much as I used to be happy clappy, the situation doesn't invite me to be optimistic. And I am optimistic by nature.

Valencia approached AVB to take over Emery but was told that he has already accepted a job offer elsewhere hence they went for Mauricio Pellegrino.

Valencia coach Emery confirms Spartak move

Valencia coach Unai Emery says he had several proposals from Russian Premier League clubs, but chose Spartak Moscow as his next job.

­“The time has come to leave Spain,” Emery told Lasprovincias.es. “Spartak’s proposal was the most interesting in comparison with the other two, which also came from Russia where football is progressing at a great pace now. There were also contacts with clubs in Turkey, Greece and Portugal.”

The 40-year-old will reportedly earn a cool €2.5 million per season in the two-and-a-half year he has signed with the Moscow team.

“Another Spanish manager – Juande Ramos – has already worked in Russia, so this experience can be very positive in professional terms,” he added. “Besides, Valery Karpin and Dmitry Popov, whom I know from our work in Spain, are already busy at the club.” 

Karpin will step down as head coach after Spartak play their final game of the season to focus on his duties as general director.  Popov, meanwhile, will continue on as the sporting director at the club.

Emery knows both members of the Red-and-Whites’ administration, as they used to play for the same clubs in Spain back in the 90s. He defended the colors of Real Sociedad together with Karpin, while Popov was his teammate at Toledo.

“And I’m not afraid of the cold. I’ll get used to it,” the Spaniard added.

The coach has won bronze medals with Valencia in the last two seasons and is likely to finish in the same spot this year, but greater feats will be expected from him in Moscow.
