AC Milan veto permanent deal for Liverpool FC midfielder Alberto Aquilani

Alberto Aquilani looks set to return to Liverpool after AC Milan vetoed plans to sign him.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been on loan with the reigning Serie A champions this season but reports in Italy today indicate that the Rossoneri are reluctant to press ahead with the deal.

Juventus, ironically where Aquilani spent last season on loan, hold a three-point lead which threatens to deny Milan's bid to claim back-to-back titles for the first time in 18 years.

To date, Aquilani has made 21 domestic appearances for Milan and would trigger the mandatory £5million clause should he make a further four outings before the end of the current campaign.

But the Italian giants are said to be reluctant to field the former Roma playmaker, who has made just 13 starts during his time at the San Siro, which has left him facing an Anfield limbo.

They don't want to buy him - pay for him. Why pay when you can get him on a cheap loan?

It's just a way to get him for free. Milan are the worst club to try to do business with.

Every club in the world knows we have been trying to get rid of him for years. They are ofcourse trying their best to keep the price as low as possible.

thats it,clubs dont want to pay for him as they know he's frozen out here and will get him for next to nowt.this is why we should have kept him this season as he could have played a vital part for us rather than sending out a message that we think he's useless and has no future here.
it wouldnt surprise me either if we release him in the summer and he moves on a bosman.
the club has handled this situation very badly imo.

Maybe he will return and Kenny play him more. He might just do a job for us yet

Just like Tevez when he was with Scum. In the end, whiskey nose ends up signing berbatov.

i`d bring him back and use him, last pre season he looked incredible. he is a quality player, at the end of benitez`s reign there were 2 or 3 games (one was portsmouth at home) were benitez put the likes of babel and aquilani in the team and we played some great stuff.

My dream

It'll never happen though. A real shame, I think he is a player we could've used, especially this year, but that ship has sailed. He'll be sold to the highest bidder (which will be cheap as chips), and go on to have a successful, if injury hit, career under a manager who gives him a go.

Of course, Roy wasn't impressed by him, Kenny neither (though it may have been to late to keep him happy) and it seemed that even Rafa lost faith in him. What do we know, perhaps he simply wasn't right for the club in the end, but I remember the impact he had in those few games he played for us. We could've done with his passing and movement this year I think...

This signing was when Rafa started losing it.

Watch quite a lot of Serie A, and the biggest mistake Rafa made was overestimating the player.. and the league he played (now plays) in. At Roma he was an in and out player... and exactly the same is happening at Milan. The fact there aint many suitors out there speaks volumes. I remember seeing the highlight reel when we signed him and posted a comment on youtube that this gives a terribly false impression of the player. Cram anybodies best bits into 3 minutes you can make them look like the second coming. Show 45 minutes of him strolling around not getting involved much, thats a more accurate reel. That he was injured just made the signing that bit more inexplicable. When he can be arsed (which is rare) he can ping a 70 yard pass to feet.. and i can only think Rafa saw him as some sort of replacement for Xabi. Huge misjudgement.

I'd like to see him given another chance.  With Stevie aging and unavailable in games because of rest, we could have Aqua and Lucas playing together.  Not sure if Aqua has what we need, but it'd be nice to get something out of him.
