If you added Suarez to those totals the numbers would be even more shocking.  British has nothing to do with it, add to the point that you are putting "appearances" instead of games started to bolster your arguement.  Also putting a pair of midfielders on your list is a bit silly.  Alonso was the best midfielder, aside from Gerrard, that we've seen at this club in a long long time, how many assists and goals did he have?

Suarez is a creative #7 though.. hes the guy that creates mayhem and provides for others. He does this for Uruguay.. the difference is he has a world class #9 in Diego Forlan to provide.. a mobile, prolific finisher. We had that with Torres.. but then made the worst deal in transfer history in bringing in a donkey.

Fenway have every right to ask questions... they have provided the necessary funds to take us to the next level, unfortunately those funds have been squandered on garbage. Having said that, Fenway themselves have to take some responsibility as they allowed this crazy spending to take place. No-one will ever get their head around the Carroll signing... its so incredibly bizarre that nothing will ever explain it. Twilight zone stuff.

Carroll will still be here next season ,he cost way too much to take what amounts to  a disproportionate loss . I can honestly see him being a key player
next season if he gets some quality service ,so it  seems our resident forum critique DC may have to invest in a mop to soak up all those tears .

When excuses are rolled out you know the game is up. We signed a donkey who was available for 2m in August 2009 prior to a season in the dean windass championship.. an inferior player to Crouch for 5 times the fee.

It was embarrassing... truly embarrassing. I have been gutted since the day we signed him, and will continue to be until hes discarded.

At the end of last season Kuyt, Meireles, Suarez and Maxi combined wonderfully in attack. Now Meireles is sold, and kuyt and maxi is on the bench and we play much worse than at the end of last season.

Kuyt might not have much in the way of flair, but he is an intelligent and very hardworking player that any team would be happy to have. There is a reason why he has played so much for the Netherlands when they have a wealth of more technical and fast players to chose from.

at the end of last season we were playing much better as a team but overall his contribution as an individual was lacking. i never doubt kuyts comittment or work rate.he is a model pro by all accounts and conducts himself very well on and off the pitch.he was far from outstanding though and has dropped a level in each of the last 2 seasons.
this year he has played over 2000 minutes with 1 assist and 2 goals in all competitions and i dont know about you but for me that isnt good enough from a senior member of the squad and its the likes of him that should be carrying the younger lads.
him or maxi isnt the answer or the future for us and they should be moved on asap.
do you really think for one minute that he would walk in to any team? and surely you cant think he'd walk into any team above us in the prem atm?.

i also think he has been a good servant for us,not an amazing player by any stretch but gives 100% most of the time and he should be commended for that.
the truth is that he was never good enough to play with torres as a front 2 and struggled in a lone role also, so to accomodate his work rate he was used on the wing rather than leave him out.
i think your slightly bigging him up by saying his goals have come mostly from midfield positions seen as out of the 70 goals he did score 95% were inside 12yds or from the spot.he's also being deployed on the wing in which is an advanced role so he should be getting into positions where he can create an oppertunity for himself or someone else.
1 assist and 2 goals from a player who has 2000 minutes under his belt isnt good enough and its not like he will get better next season either so its time to say thank you for everything and good luck,then go and replace him with someone better.
ya never know either andy could be the ideal replacement on the wing and if nothing else at least we could pull out the old excuse of being played out of position.

yeah well said mate, i`ve flew off the handle myself a bit in this thread but after reading your post i`ve re-read the article and your right, not much substance there at all, as you say end of season reviews probably happen at every club (even the ale house sides that play on stanley park probably have them these days) as a matter of routine.

Dirk repaid his fee with that goal alone, not to mention the many crucial goals over the years (the recent cup final being the latest example).

At a time when we have forked out over 80 million on 4 midtable level british players who have made 116 appearances and contributed a total of 6 goals....its odd to pick fault with a guy who has contributed more to the club than the 4 combined ever will, and has more than paid back his fee... we wont get half of what we paid for the 4.

Well said mate! kuyt is not the problem at liverpool! if carroll, henderson, downing and adam had his work ethic we would be challanging for the title and not in the mess we are at the moment!  I couldn't agree more with what you have said! he also scored our only goal when we played in the second CL final which gave us a chance for the last 5 mins!!!

I think you'll find that if you research dirk kuyt and his transfer to liverpool he cost the club £9m!  half of the price you have up and most of those goals you are talking about have been from midfield!  he was moved out to the midfield (wide right) because of his work ethic and the fact that we haven't ever replaced steve Mc manaman! 70 goals from a right winger doesn't sound like a bad return to me?  he has also scored in FA cup final, Champions league games that have got us to the final and in the CL final itself!  he has been one of the most consistant players at LFC for the last 5 years!  so please don't have a go at a player who has given everything he has for the cause when downing, henderson, babbel and many others could have done with some of his drive and determination!  kuyt will always have a special place in anfield folklaw and you should be supporting the guy instead of berating and belittling his achievments at anfield!!!!!!

Fenway will probably know who is to blame. They themselves are hiring people that spends wasts sums of money on ***** but it's their club at least and in the end their money.

If KK didn't have anything to do with misserable transfers most of my grievance could dissapear. In that case Comolli or whoever was in charge of them should get the axe. Paying those silly numbers we did for Andy, Henderson and Downing is sackable in itself. Even if KK only gave the green light on Comollis suggestions that also is enough for me to loose my confidence in him.

Had we had 11 Kuyt on the field we would have won the league the last few years.

Imagine how Fergie will deal with a Carroll type of reaction and swearing at him in public? It's a sign that a consistently underperforming player think he's bigger than the club and lost of respect to a manager who have supported him thus far. Now if Dalglish do not take swift action (internally or publicly), it will be interpreted as a sure sign of weak management and that will not be good for longer term future.

Hate SAF for all you like but I respect his strong arm management style. Dalglish with all his pedigree and record, both as a player and manager must surely be able to command the respect of his players. For me Carroll is a goner, and he can take Henderson and Dowling out of the door. I have no respect for any professionals who are well paid and under perform a basic task week in and week out, irregardless of how much potential they might bring in years to come. Their attitude and temperament tells me that they won't go far as a top professional football players. Very very disappointed...

This is nothing more than routine. Every manager will be expected to do an end of season report. There's a lot of focus on us though and perhaps rightly so. I'd not want to be writing the report. But I do believe there's plenty of positives this year. For starters, when we've played well we've been exciting to watch. We've often dominated matches. We've seen some good young players too. It's not all doom and gloom. And sometimes it';s possible to make a lot of progess without actually SEEING it. Strange, but true. I'm not despairing just yet. I'd like to see how we start next season.

What's more important is that Kuyt cost £11m, not £18m and he's spent his entire Liverpool career on the wing, so his goals to games ratio has been very good for someone playing out of his comfort zone, in another position.
