Hes the one player i got wrong... i genuinely thought he had more (infact i know he does, you dont get player of the year at Villa ahead of Ashley Young, and make endless assists for Bent and co. without having some quality). Hes a heads up player (looks where hes crossing the ball to) which is why i liked him.

It appears to be a mental thing with him.. people at Villa stated hes a bit of a chicken sh1t, lacks belief, and moving to us has possibly been too much for him. Some players rise to the expectations, some shrink. Kenny is the type who gets the best out of these kind of individuals so its a worry why he has yet to do it.

is right.

at the end of the day you either rise to the challenge when you come here or you wilt under the pressure. when push comes to shove it doesn't really matter if henderson put in so many great crosses last year for sunderland when they weren't really under pressure. same for downing at villa or carroll at newcastle. when players come here the pressure and the scrutiny is magnified tenfold.

it's one of my biggest bugbears in football when i hear clueless fans and pundits going on about how players are better suited because they're "premiership proven". it's a load of guff. these are probably the same people who claimed that david silva was "too lightweight" when he went to man city.

The geordie north east contingent have really let us down havent they?

Did they make a pact?

In all seriousness, they should get until the end of the season and no more, 30+ games is more than enough for any player with the price tags they are burdened with to show any potential/ability.

20 games in so far and lets be honest, i mean lets really be honest now. Take off your die hard support LFC hat off and put on your realistic hat. Bar maybe 1 or 2 exceptions, downing, henderson and carroll have been dire/clueless/inept/pisspoor, whatever you want to call it.

How did we get it wrong? I dont think we did. We signed proven prem players who have all had very good seasons under their belt. We gambled expensively and Lost.

Now Kenny isnt stupid, he can read the fans concerns, he is a fan himself. Behind closed doors he must have his doubts its just how long he is willing to accept this situation.

i probably am more disapointed with him than carroll.
i thought when we signed him he would do ok,wouldnt have been my choice but still thought he was the type of player we needed.
he has ability but were not getting it out of him for some reason and he needs to be sat down by kenny and put straight followed by a spell on the bench.
i really doubt either him and any of the other new signings will be moving on this year and its more like we will lose the likes of kuyt, maxi, aurelio along with some of the loan players to fund replacements.

Downing had 7 assists for Villa last season and Young had 10. Bent scored 17 goals !! Downing's form at best has been sporadic for England,Villa and Middlesborough.Take a look at this link: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/21187/stewart-downing?cc=5739

We seem to have paid a very high price based on a far better than average season that Downing enjoyed last year.

Young has also gone off for United after an amazing start. Both Young and Downing had a higher proportion of the play at Villa which will inevitably improve their stats.

Frustrating player, always seems to be looking to pass backwards, then, all of a sudden, gets the ball in the centre circle, accelerates away from 3 players and has a shot on goal after taking a few on - sadly only does this once every 3 games - just wish hed "go for it" a lot more.

Biggest annoyance is when hes on the left (or infact the right) hes always waiting for Enrique or Johnson to overlap for a pass, JUST GET AT THEM!!!!

He nearly achieved that in 2008/9 for Middlesborough with no goals and three assists. He also had 82 shots of which 20 were on target and not one of the shots resulted in a goal. WHOOOOOPS !!!!!!!

Biggest disappointment of the season for me as was expecting so much more. He has one or two flashes of promise a game and the rest is very ordinary. Regardless of wich flank he operates on his standard fare is get the ball, advance 15-20 yds on the opposing full back then stops dead and passes back. He very rarely attempts to beat the defender or to shift the ball and play it in the box (on this last point in his defence there are a lot of occasions when we only have one in the box and a cross is just giving possession away but still...)

i'm guessing he'd been drinking when said it.

Downing is awful and i'd sooner have Babel back
