I'd be classed as a Republican but I don't like the candidates. Ron Paul is too old and marginal. Romney is the plastic smile of US politics, and this Sacarin fellow whatever his name is.... who is he and why should he be given the top job in the world if no ones' heard of him? I'd rather give it to Warren Buffet or Bill gates than an unknown.

I'd vote for Obama to be honest.

Agreed Reg, I can't see anyone beating Obama at the moment, most of the republican candidates are just nuts.

When you have people like Bachmann, Caine and Perry running for president because ''God'' told them then as a voter you would start questioning the position of the GOP. Romney looks like the most sensible candidate, but he was raised a mormon and I don't think he has a chance against Obama, maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I see it

I also agree that Obama already inhereted a crumbling economy, George Bush Jr. almost destroyed the US economy, so you can't blame Obama. I've read an article that there was an increase in Jobs (200,000 new jobs est.) a in 2011nd the unemployment rate dropped.

Doesn't matter who gets in. There is no "Republican" or "Democrat". It just two sides of the same coin. They'll end up being told what to do by the same business concerns that's been telling American political parties what to do for decades.

That's interesting. Presumably it's those business concerns that are behind the candidates' views on abortion, gay marriage, family, race relations etc..

Mate,

IMO, for most major politicians in the US (and probably the world over), moral and minority issues mean next to nothing.... they jump on the appropriate bandwagon when required and sit on the fence most times.

They live and die by the performance of the economy.

Hell, Clinton was found to be a liar, fornicator and adulterer but in most American eyes, he was a good president because the economy did well under his so called guidance.

Most politicians are not in it for the people.... they're in it for themselves.

America is often touted by their people as the bastion of freedom and equality AND the champion of Democracy. For me, their system is as corrupt if not more so than most other nations in the world. Money and pipeline politics disguised behind a thinly veiled facade of righteousness.

Metal, you have to bear in mind concerning employment that the US population is ever increasing so the labour pool is expanding day by day so to actually reduce unemployment means creating sufficient new jobs to cover the new workers + a real increase in employment. Not easy. You ask Margaret as when we had viscious unemployment in the mid 80's in the UK the labour pool swelled massively as women flooded the market for work to compensate the loss of their husbands' jobs - then never went back, remaining in the pool.

Bush Jr was the darling of the militant right christians in Texas and look what good it did them but the right wing church has been a growing threat for some years now, fortunately the need to get out there and create jobs has put killing moslems and jews on the back burner for a while. (am I allowed to say that?).

Romney looks a conceited tw@t (lets get back to conventional foul language that offends no one), Mr Plastic Smile who just needs to avoid mistakes to get the Republican ticket. I often wonder what happened to Co-lin Powell as a coloured run off with Obama-bey would be interesting.

I sense more than ever that the candidate with the best funded PR campaign will win this time round, I don't get the feeling any of the candidates really want the job, there doesn't seem to be any spark of enthusiasm as in "I WANT THE CHALLENGE". Obama might be re-elected by default.

I unfortunately agree with this too. In the end, it's all going to depend on certain people getting what they want. The president is turning into more and more a figure head each election.
