Ian Rush makes debut december 1980 scores first goal september 1981- 9 months
Peter Crouch makes debut in July 2005 scores first goal december 2005- 5 months
Andy Carroll makes debut march 2011 scores first goal april 2011- 1 month

If he hasnt helped us progress this season then maybe look at options

I think the biggest problem has been he has not had a run in the team, Im not saying he is going to be another Ian Rush but he could deffo score as often as Peter Crouch

In the past 3 months, Suarez has played 1053 minutes, Carroll has played 457 minutes.

Suarez has played more than 70 minutes in every single match, Carroll has only played 70+ minutes in 5 of the 12, and only once has he played 70+ minutes in consecutive matches. In that time, Suarez has scored 2 goals; Carroll has also scored 2 goals. Blackburn was the first time in the past 3 months that Carroll has played the full 90 minutes and not scored.

The Suarez ban means Carroll will (probably) get an extended run in the team, the kind which he hasn't had previously. The kind of run which he should use to claim his place in the first XI even when Suarez returns.

If he doesn't, then he (we?) really will be in trouble.

Carroll needs a run in the first team...say 5 matches...beacause at present he gets fleeting chances and tries too hard. That's why he snatches at chances and struggles, he's trying to prove himself and he's f**king up because he's not playing his natural game.

Give him a 5 game stint and i'm confident we'll see the player we signed last year and not a cart horse that's all over the place.

if the lad can't get fired up to prove a point against his old team on friday then he never will do. same for bellamy. personall i'd start them both.

newcastle are poor in the air at the back. they recently lost 4-2 away at norwich and all four goals were headers in and around the six yard box. get decent delivery in and carroll will have a field day.

so far too many of our crosses are floated in from deep or wide positions. our wide players need to take a leaf out of gerrard's book and start whipping them in with pace.

It was a ludicrous amount of money to pay for a guy that had just half a season of premier league football under his belt and who was not (IMO) obviously suited to playing the kind of football that you tend to associate with top sides. Maybe you could justify paying a lesser fee, but £35m?

I don't think we were even competing against anyone to sign him, just ourselves with our apparent 'need' to replace Torres, despite having already signed Suarez and with only a slim chance of making the top four anyway.

Before we signed him, a lot of the focus was on his aerial strength and his unique, almost freakish ability to get his head on it, this being so outstanding as to make him the 'best striker in England', or so said the likes of Ian Holloway. This and a belter of a left-foot were/are his outstanding attributes. Much less attention was paid to his abilities in a wider sense, for example his ability to link with players in ways more complex than the long, direct and uncomplicated approach adopted by Newcastle Utd.

For me, even at Newcastle, he didn't demonstrate the kind of proficiency to play in more intricate ways that players of his type have needed to be a success at the top level. This is why the comparisons with players like Drogba were so wide of the mark. Drogba actually has surprisingly good control and craft for a big man as well as the pace, power and aerial strength to overwhelm defences. Maybe Andy is just a very raw talent who will go on to adapt and become the world class player it was hoped he could become but I'm pretty doubtful myself.
Perhaps a more likely scenario is that he becomes a useful option to have in the way that, say, Crouch was for us. It took him a fair while to get going but he did and without being prolific, still managed to offer enough in other ways (i.e. as a player to work off of) to justify his place in the side. This, though, would still leave us needing a prolific goalscorer. I think we'd be foolish to pin our hopes on Andy as being 'the one' to partner Suarez in that respect, but we shouldn't completely write him off just yet. That said, if we could sell him etc.... :laugh:

No we are seeing the player we signed, thats the problem. Kenny, for whatever reason, saw something he thought he could massively improve, hes figuring out he cant.
