Reds to make Huntelaar approach in January

Liverpool will attempt to reunite Luis Suarez with former strike partner Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The two formed a potent partnership in their two seasons together at Ajax, and Damien Comolli, who tried to sign Huntelaar when he was Director of Football at Tottenham, will approach Bundesliga club Schalke with a player plus cash deal involving Dirk Kuyt. Kenny Dalglish is ready to move in the January transfer market in order to find a suitable partner for Suarez but any deal would be dependent on sacrificing one of his existing strike options, with the increasingly peripheral Kuyt being the most likely casualty.

Always like Huntelaar.  But Kuyt doesn't deserved to be sacrificed, unless he wants to go.  He deserves to end his career a red.

That may have been the funniest day I've seen as far as twitter is concerned.  Well that or the abuse I got from my 14 followers for leaving my Blackberry on the beach while surfing and it ending up getting fried when a larger wave rolled in.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Totally agree, we shouldn't treat our players like that. Don't want us to turn into Chelsea and have "a cold way of dealing with players".

Anyway, I'm not too sure about Huntelar, he wasn't good enough for the big clubs (Real and Milan) but he is the kind of player that we need at the moment, a fox in the box. He's also in a very good form at the moment.

I have similar concerns about Huntelaar perhaps being past his best. That being said if he and Suarez were prolific at Ajax then perhaps the Suarez/Huntelaar combination will start to see us score the goals our excellent play deserves.

I don't want to see Kuyt leave though as he works his socks off for LFC and he would be a loss.

Kuyt loss v Huntelaar (Suarez) gain though??? ???

Now that would be terrific, but I can't see it happening.

Why would selling Kuyt be a cold way of dealing with a player ?  When we were winning titles thats always the way we conduced our business.  Apart from selling Jimmy Case prematurely Bob Paisley was a master at knowing when to move a player on (even if that player "deserved" to finish his career a red (e.g. Ray Kennedy, Emlyn Hughes, Phil Thomson).  Later, Kenny Dalglish adopted the same approach with Phil Neal, Alan Kennedy and Sammy Lee.  If Huntelaar is available, the prospect of partnering him with Suarez should be seized upon even if it means sacrificing Kuyt.  He will always be fondly regarded by Liverpool fans, especially for his hat trick against the mancs but the pursuit of the elusive league title must supersede the feelings of any player.

I think this Jelavic is a hell of a player.  If this is genuine and we can get him for under 10 mil it's a bargain.

Trouble with Kuyt is he has gone through periods like this before where he is terrible for a run of games, but he usually comes back and hits a purple patch.

He's a good player, loyal and a worker.  But if he wants more first team football elsewhere I'd let him go, he's not irreplaceable.
