Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

Postby only me » Tue Dec 06, 2011 4:21 pm

How can people write Carrol off while our midfield this year has been playing like a headless chicken most of the time? Yes Andy doesn't look good at this stage but for god sake he is a striker that needs support and if you are telling me that he got good service from Either Adam ,Hendo ,Downing ,Lucas ,Johnson ,Enrique ...whoever ,you are totally tripping.

Not every striker is a Suarez ,Torres type which are basiclly a one man operation ,most need the support ,he is getting none at the moment. So less this MF start acting like it knows what it is doing i wouldn't chop Andy off so soon.

Club has to stay positive in public about Carroll but they are no fools and will see that this lad is becomeing a problem for us now not only in terms of personal performance but how he fits into this team. To this point he has offered up virtually nothing and doesnt even give us a moment of hope with any of his work. Internationally hes also being passed up for lads in good club form who are producing the goods. You have to perform and truth is Carroll isnt and hasnt and its becoming worrysome when we are short of numbers up top. Where we go from here with him I really have no idea so he better shape up and start earning his corn, sympathys all but gone now.

I suggest anyone who thinks Carroll did "ok" (i know no one does its only a defensive ploy) avoid reading the tabloids today. Hes a hopeless player with no pedigree.. he has never done a thing in his career to suggest 10million plus player. I wish Hodgson had signed him, then we'd be shot of him sooner.

The most striking thing for me is Kenny's reaction when his name is mentioned in interviews.. he clearly hates the subject as his face lowers and the tone in his voice is downbeat. The Liverpool echo has stated there are people within the club who question this signing... i'd like to know the culprits that don't.

Pass and move is alien to Carroll...and tbh its unfair to put him in this impossible environment. I'd equate it to sending an average student to study at Cambridge. Newcastle was his level... long balls constantly pumped into the box..very direct, and very little football played.. thats where he will get his 13/14 goals per season. A team of Suarez, Bellamy, Maxi, Adam.. they want to pass and move, one-twos, quick interchanging... this is not the big cumbersome leggy fellas environment. The worst thing is he ruins us when we play, the slick fluid play we displayed at Fulham last season.. we looked a different team last night (same i saw against Spurs when the anonymous big fella was picked).

Excellent post but the dilemma Kenny faces is what to do with him without losing a fortune. My view is simple. The knockout stages of the CL are worth circa £30m and he is not going to help us get there. Sell him off for whatever we can get and it probably won't be more than £5/10m unless Chelsea can be persuaded that he has an amazing future playing next to Torres! Frankly he is a bit of an embarrassment and needs to go in January. He will have had a year and that is more than long enough for the club to realise his shortcomings. I know Lucas looked very poor for his first few seasons with Liverpool and that things can change but Carroll short of a miracle is never going to be anything special. He's just an old fashioned centre forward and he is lacking in almost every area. What did Damien Comolli and Kenny Dalglish see in him to think he was ever worth £35m plus a fortune in wages?

You need to look like you have potential.......he is not 12 years old

he is potentially our greatest failure.....sorry, stike that reverse, he has fullfilled his potential as our greatest failure ...he is an abherration of a footballer...

Its plain to see he has potential, it really isnt hard to see it.  I see it and more importantly the people who run our club see it.

There are plenty of players who are not playing great in our team at the moment, including our golden boy Luis Suarez, who has the lowest shots on target in the Premiership at the moment.  However nobody seems to have a problem with him at the moment.

I want to support all the players and believe that Keny knows more about our players than we do

Are you Carroll's Dad? It is obviously taking you a little bit longer to run out of patience than most of us! It will happen just give it time.

I've never liked him from day one. He looks like a Neanderthal and makes Ryan Babel look like a world beater, who in 19 games so far this season has scored 5 goals for a very average team! I GIVE IN! Ngog could have done a better job at a fraction of the cost. This signing is actually worse than anything Hodgson did. It was only made better by the crazy money we got for Torres.

Are you serious? By using your criteria Lucas should have been excuted based his first season performance....You really hate the guy.

We all agree he was way over paid for (not his fault) ,but he is very dominant in the Air ,has a strong accurate kick and at least last year had pretty clinical finishing. Give him a chance.

Right cause our midfield has been busier then rush hour traffic...Don't kid yourself...Downing ,Adam ,Hendo and rest have barely provided any service to Carrol or Suarez for that matter...

My attendance at the games reassured me that Lucas had footballing skills that were surpressed by certain team members and unappreciated by many fans. Fortunately there were a few of us who saw real potential and it was of no surprise to me that Lucas blossomed into the wonderful player he is today once he was allowed to stamp his authority on the game...It's no coincidence that some players have left and others have spent many an hour on the treatment table over the last 2 years to allow Lucas the game time to develop into a fabulous player.

As for Carroll....please indicate the potential  :upside:

Supersub go and watch a re run off our game last season against City or Newcastles game against Arsenal or when we got beat by Newcastle or any of their games before he got injured last season - you will then see his potential when he is full of confidence , terrorising defences and scoring goals .

He has played 20 games with half of the appearances , the lad has struggled with fitness and confidence since returning from a lengthy injury - the least he deserves is a proper chance from the club that took the risk on him , give the management a chance to gettin the best out of him but it's goin to take a lot more than 20 games .

Show me anything that resembles the following about Carroll and then I will willingly debate the issue: Lucas began his career at Grêmio in 2005 and became club captain when he was 19. The following year was a successful year for him, as Grêmio won the Rio Grande do Sul state championship (the Campeonato Gaúcho) for the first time since 2001, and also came third in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Lucas also became the youngest player ever to receive Placar magazine's Bola de Ouro (Golden Ball), given to the best player in the Campeonato Brasileiro — an honour previously won by the likes of Zico, Falcão, Careca, Alex, Romario, Robinho, Kaká and Tévez.[5]

even when he does play we hardly play to his strengths anyway. so many times our players get in positions to cross the ball to him but don't. it's now got to the stage whereby carroll isn't even looking to make the runs to anticipate the cross because he's not expecting it to come in. it's weird that we seem to play with more width when he isn't in the side.

Service or non service...it's still possible to figure whether a player has some ability...

It's stupid to write him off like this because the lad has potential, but for now, he should be benched and used only as a sub.
