if those numbers regarding his wages are accurate, then its peanuts compared to less deserving players such as Jova and Konchesky. there are 10 other players who should be sold before Raul.

Don't Agree. Totally reasonable move.

Meireles and i'll say it the million time failed to leave a consistent impact on the pitch ,people are falling in love with the beutifull goals he scored but completly forget the many games where he was MIA ,pale ,uninvolved ,confused and unnoticable. KK is right in going for more aggressive type of players ,players which want the ball and impact team play.

As to Koncheski and Jova and the other 10 ,you are right ,but no one is buying...KK would love to get rid of those which enjoy are comfy pension plan on the expense of our Red shirt.

He did fail to make an impact in some games, but overall he had a very good season and received due recognition by winning the PFA league-wide fans player of the year award.

On the flank, his options are limited.. He's not a great dribbler or a particularly pacey player and will always struggle to take on/beat a fullback.. He still put in a decent shift regardless and I would have thought that when the chance was there for us to address our problems, we'd move him back to his natural position rather than try to move him on because we need funds to sign the likes of Henderson and C.Adam who are obviously not better players.

Lets not discredit the guy here just to try and justify what the management might do. Bottom line is, he's a top player and one who would probably make it into the starting 11 of the Italian champions if he does sign. To suggest that he is surplus to requirements at our club is simply ridiculous any way you look at it.

Spot on, I've been saying this every time he was shifted out wide, it limits him and he isn't a natural wide player, when he started playing more in the middle he looked quality.

I was never really impressed by Meireles. He did have some good games sure, and had a lovely run of goals at one point, but I don't remember him ever hugely impacting the squad. I read a nice interview with him once though where he spoke of his desire to do well, how much he loved the club and the fans. On his wages, I see no reason to ship him out, especially not for anything less than £15m. He has a part to play in my opinion, but I don't think he will ever make a great impact. I'd be more inclined to take a gamble on Aqua since no one wants him. Probably the kinda player who will suddenly ignite and take the Prem by storm!

He was asked if he'd be a Liverpool player next season to which he replied "Of Course".

Case closed I hope.

First off I don't believe for 1 second that Jova is on 120k/week.  There's no way he was getting anywhere near that in the Belgium league, and he wouldn't expect to get that coming to Liverpool.  Stevie is our highest paid player and I think he's between 100-120k/week.

Secondly, Meireles is 28 years old now.  If he doesn't have a better season than last, he will have no resale value at 29 years old and clearly not fully adjusted to the prem.  The reason his value is so high is because people believe he can quickly adapt to the league, given that was only hist first season.  I don't think clubs think he's worth £15 million based on last season's performances, but on the fact that the way he played shows that by this season, he will complete a really successful transformation.

I don't really want to sell Meireles as I like him, but from a business point of view I see it as a rather smart move.  With the financial fair play rules coming into affect, we are potentially getting £13 million in revenues for him, or a player that may not even be better than gerrard or Adam next season.  If we play a 4-3-3 then there may be no place for him in the lineup either way, and Adam was bought to replace Gerrard.

I do like Meireles, and if he's sold in a respectful manner, then I think it may be the right move.  Tho unlike most of you I rate Adam higher than Meireles as it is, so that may be part of the reason I think it could be a good move.

Looking at a list of top paid footballers, which Jova isn't included in, Anelka is the lowest paid player and is paid 80k/week.

Jova doesn't get paid 120k/week, there's no way in hell.

Here's the list:

Here's another list that is a little different from the first, but it's top 100 including Liverpool players: Gerrard, Johnson, Cole, Carroll, and Carra.  But no Jova.

Jovanovic's basic wage is only about 40 grand but last season he got and extra 80 grand a week to pay his signing on fee because we couldn't afford to pay it all at once .

Meireles is staying and will be in the starting line up more often than not - Adam will be the player providing back up from the bench .
