The Premiership - General Discussion

If he is on the shopping block I'm actually quite surprised he hasn't been linked with another premiership club given he had a very respectable first season in England, particularly when you look to someone like Nasri who (like so many others) took at least 18 months to get to grips with the pace and physicality of the game here. Having said all that, you wonder if Kenny has looked at Adam and come to the conclusion that he carries an equal goal threat and passing ability to Mereilles but that he is also a more robust player who will win headers, throw himself into tackles and offer more defensively? For all his qualities, I winced on more than a few occasions last year when Mereilles bottled another 50/50 tackle.

If selling Mereilles means Kenny gets the money to switch attention to bringing in the desperately needed upgrade at Centre-half we need then I say do it.

i agree he can only get better for us and i hoped he would have toughened up for the coming season as he was a decent player last year.the rest of his game is strong just has to work on the tackling.

id say the only reason he will leave is if we cant offload the other rubbish to gain funds for replacements.

Disappointed to see him up for sale after only one season at the club.

During his first season with LFC I think the fella showed enough to at least earn a chance to build on it.

"In Kenny we Trust" ?

Not sure who is pulling the strings when it comes to contract negotiations but Meireles is miles ahead of the other players you've mentioned

The only reason I could think of us wanting to sell him is out of all the players KennyKan mentioned, he can probably bring in the most. And in a few years his value will probably start to plummit so we may as well cash in now. Take on board the likes of Cole and Poulsen should exit before him. But im confident they will both be gone come August.

Only have to watch the highlights from last season and in every big win one player was involved throughout - Raul Meireles

It will be a shocking desicion to sell him

Some of Comollis comments on the Adam signing suggest they felt we where not robust or energetic enough in midfield so I dont think they have been over impressed with Meireles contribution. The lad is decent technically and gets the odd goal but in terms of getting about the park and grafting for the team its perhaps not his strong suit and both Adam and Henderson will put in the work on top of the other skills in their locker.

But unfortunately for him he's easily the best sale able asset the side probably has compared to said players.

''wages are 'probably a contributing factor''.

Apparently he's on 30,000 a week.

'cause Jovanovic was signed on a free transfer, therefore higher wages. Same with Joe Cole. Very high wages.

He has been left behind (from the China tour) in order to talk to Juventus and Inter over a possible £12M move.

fkn stupid move  :no
if those numbers regarding his wages are accurate, then its peanuts compared to less deserving players such as Jova and Konchesky. there are 10 other players who should be sold before Raul.

Don't Agree. Totally reasonable move.

Meireles and i'll say it the million time failed to leave a consistent impact on the pitch ,people are falling in love with the beutifull goals he scored but completly forget the many games where he was MIA ,pale ,uninvolved ,confused and unnoticable. KK is right in going for more aggressive type of players ,players which want the ball and impact team play.

As to Koncheski and Jova and the other 10 ,you are right ,but no one is buying...KK would love to get rid of those which enjoy are comfy pension plan on the expense of our Red shirt.

I sort of understand why it's happening but it sets a very bad precedent for the rest of the players. Play good and be a good trooper and you will be flogged off to some other country while other deadwood players are still here. We won't miss him so much because we have other players that can make up for him leaving but we are still weakening the squad.:(
