disagree Zara...Raul is a good player and he's also proven in the Premier League as a quality performer.

We need strength and depth and having guys like Meireles is the way forward...

the guy won PFA Fans player of the year in his first season for us, playing mostly out of position... He scored and provided a decent amount of goals and for large periods of last season he was by far the best player we had in the side...

We go out and sign the unproven Henderson and the frankly over-hyped C.Adam and all of a sudden we don't need Meireles anymore ?

BS ... Would be a continuation of our flawed transfer activities so far if true..

People still blame Rafa for letting players like Owen, Murphy, Sissoko, Hyypia...etc leave for different reasons... The way I see it, if we lose Meireles its a huge step backwards in terms of establishing a strong and competitive squad..

Rumour is, he's off, surplus to requirments, his age (29) and wages are probably a contributing factor.

I think he offers our midfield some extra in the final third and think he's good enough to be kept on, ahead of Spearing, Poosen, J.Cole and others.

But unfortunately for him he's easily the best sale able asset the side probably has compared to said players.

I wouldn't say huge step backwards if at all. I don't think he's contributed a significant amount defensively or attacking. He's been decent and that's it imo. He wasn't near the first name on the team sheet last season and still isn't. There's potential to build on an again, decent, first season but if kenny decides not their fair dos. I fail to see where this love is coming from in all honesty. He wasn't consistent, he bottled nearly every 50/50 and was very inconsistent

Agreed. With there being doubts over the fitness of Gerrard for the start of the season, Aquillani looking like he is on his way and Henderson late back to pre-season after the U21 Euro's we will be left short on attacking midfield options come the start of the season if we sell Raul.

I hear the points about him bottling a lot of challenges and that is why I have consistently said he is not a defensive midfielder. He had a great season for us last year and to sell now would be a mistake IMO.

However.....if Raul was to be seen as a makeweight for a replacement coming in who fits with the Fenway Sports ethos (i.e. young with potential) then I would potentially support that if it was the likes of Javi Martinez or Juan Mata we were talking about  :)

Will be terrible to see him leave if not for a monster offer was put in by another club. We need to take the club forward not backward or thread water. ???

Scored some crucial goals for us last season. Particularly the one winner at Stamford Bridge. However, if Kenny and co don't think he fits into their future plans then that's fine by me. We were told that we would be making 7 or 8 signings and as we are only on number 3 (I presume the Roma GK signed) then I expect plenty more exciting transfer activity.

Got mixed feelings on this one, he's a good player who (should he stay) will likely get better next season. If he is on the shopping block I'm actually quite surprised he hasn't been linked with another premiership club given he had a very respectable first season in England, particularly when you look to someone like Nasri who (like so many others) took at least 18 months to get to grips with the pace and physicality of the game here. Having said all that, you wonder if Kenny has looked at Adam and come to the conclusion that he carries an equal goal threat and passing ability to Mereilles but that he is also a more robust player who will win headers, throw himself into tackles and offer more defensively? For all his qualities, I winced on more than a few occasions last year when Mereilles bottled another 50/50 tackle.

If selling Mereilles means Kenny gets the money to switch attention to bringing in the desperately needed upgrade at Centre-half we need then I say do it.
