1) He never managers to play the full 90 mins cos he was knackered.

2) He is going to have to play out wide again because Gerrard will be back and Lucas will be the defensive midfielder and with Henderson and another wide player in this could be unlikely.

3) In the physical games he is too light weight and goes missing.

Its the physical side that I'm really concerned about, he's not particularly strong and he's bottled more 50/50s than anyone else in our side

He doesn't exactly have a great passing range either

We lack depth in midfield so personally I'd keep him but if Aqua comes back then there's a conundrum

btw are there any quotes anywhere from either side?

You never can tell if these stories are rubbish but quite often you find new mangers want their own players in and if opportunity arises are happy to ship out the old guard. We had a chance with Torres and Dagger had him away and now theres this Meireles speculation. Wouldnt be surprised if it came off this and Kenny will get his own lads in. That said you do sense there is a desire to balance books where possible and whilst it keeps the club on a sound footing, fans at big clubs want the best players, sheikh, oil baron type players, and deep down we are no different really.

I think he was our least consistent player last year, but on good days he was one of the best on the pitch.  I hate to sell him now because I feel that after a season in the league, he can sort that out.  If we held onto him another season and it was the same, we could probably sell him for the same next season and move on with it.

If he got consistent tho, he'd be one of the best CM's in the league.  He does have problems lasting the full 90 but that's because he works his @ss off and I think part of it was adjusting to the physical prem.

We'd be crazy to sell him. Yes, he is light weight. Yes, he rarely played 90 min. Yes, he was inconsistent. But when he was asked to play in the middle (rather than out on the left or right which clearly didn't suit him) he showed he was a player, and is was his first season at the club and country, and hardly the most settled time to join Liverpool.

I think I read somewhere that his family wasn't settling. If so, then for his sake I'd be willing to move him on, but he is worth well more than 13 mill. If not, then why in the world would you sell him?

FK's sake , the fella might not be absolute "top of the shop" but it's obvious to anyone with half a brain the he's got skills, you have to give him at least another season to bed in before you consign him to the bin.

I'm not worried, I don't think we will sell him, really rate Meireles and I would be very disappointed if we let him go

I just hope there's a long term plan in place here. I won't be happy to see him go but if subsequently bring someone significant in then I'll be satisfied.

I'm all up for a complete overhaul but Raul wouldnt exactly have been top of my list on those we needed to cut

Im really baffled by this speculation

Thought he was one good thing to come out of Roy era ( if you can call 6 months a era)
Some cracking goals and really came into his own once Stevie was injured

I wont be happy at all to see him sold

I have a feeling that he is going.

Mixed feelings for me on it as well, he did well in his debut season. Well enough to warrant another season definitely.
However he does seem to have fitness issues and can go missing in games.
Its a difficult one as we are clearly in for Adam and if he signs how often will Meireles play ?
If it was a straight choice i would play Adam ahead of Raul. He has a better range of passing and is a battler. His set piece delivery would also give him the nod.
I think Kenny is trying to get a core of british players in the squad/team and to be honest i am happy with that.

I would keep Meireles if possible despite what i have said but honestly think he will go.

these are pretty much my thoughts down to a tee.

Playing either a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, Meireles is gonna find himself behing Gerrard, Lucas, Adam and Henderson in a midfield 2 or 3.

I think (like most of us) Kenny would prefer to sell Aquilani for £10m rather than Meireles for £15m, but Alberto is proving quite hard to shift at the moment - nobody wants him - so it might mean that we have to keep him because we can't get rid of him. Therefore Aquilani could provide additional cover in midfield (behind the 4 mentioned above) therefore Meireles proves to be a saleable asset.
