He has has first season under his belt and just got better and better especially when Kenny came in. He has adapted to the Premiership and knocked in his fair share of goals. With all the extra pressure for places in midfield next season he will have to up his game even more!!

For me he stays

Agree with this 100%.  I'm all for getting rid of some deadwood to make way for some new signings but Raul doesn't fall into that category.  I also get a little distressed with how quickly some people want to get shut of players that don't pull up trees in their very first season at a new club and in a new league.  What happened to having a little patience and letting good players bed in?  You see it a bit with Carroll as well and it's annoying.  Yes, we need to get back into the hunt for CL places and league titles but a revolving door transfer policy is not the solution.

selling him would be complete madness. he was easily one of our top 3 or 4 performers last season and is one of our best technical players period.

I'd rather we concentrate on whats needed before we start chopping and changing areas of the pitch that aren't as important
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

He is much more of a complete midfielder than Jordan Henderson & Charlie Adam are at this time. I see him playing an inportant part in Jenny's plans this season.

who's Jenny ?

i am excited by all the new signing in Henderson and Adam (90% signed) but letting the euphoria die for a while and think,
we didnt address the main issue of signing wingers and central defender in the team.
we are losing Young, getting Downing and maybe Mata ?

i dont see Raul being sold without the new signings proving themselves better. Kenny is not daft.

Well, from the sounds of it we've already moved Ngog on.  He was on my list.  Obviously Poulsen and Konchesky are surplus to requirements (if they ever were in any sense 'required' in the first place).  Jovanovic (remember him?) can go to anyone willing to pay us a few quid.  Given his wages, you could make a case for Joe Cole getting shipped as well, although he's one I wouldn't be disappointed about keeping if Kenny thought he might be able to turn him around next season.  I think Aquilani needs to go as well.  He's got talent but it's unclear whether he ever could really adapt to the English game and he's certainly made no secret that his heart's not into a return, which should seal his fate.  Those would be my main guys when thinking about the so-called deadwood.  Oh and Insua as well.

Stephen Darby, El Zhar and Phillip Degen should also be sold. Kyrgiakos' contract expired I think and he shouldnt be given a new one since we're signing a new defender.

I can't believe that anyone is considering getting rid of Meireles, rumors are flying around that he will be used to free up more funds but for what? another Henderson or Carroll deal, f_uck me I hope not.

Raul Meireles 'up for sale as Liverpool give Juventus their price'

The former Porto midfielder enjoyed a promising debut season at Anfield, winning the PFA Fans' Player of the Year, but now it seems he may be surplus to requirements just a year after joining the Reds.

Roy Hodgson paid £11million for the Portuguese international at the start of last season, and the 28-year-old still thrived under Dalglish in a second striker role after Hodgson was sacked in January.

But with the Scotsman seemingly focused on domestic recruitment this summer, reports for The National are claiming he’s willing to sacrifice Meireles, presumably to raise funds for the purchases of Aston Villa’s Stewart Downing and Ipswich striker Connor Wickham.

Juventus are already said to have offered the Reds Felipe Melo in exchange for the tattooed Kop midfielder, but Dalglish rejected the idea of a swap, and instead quoted the Italians a straight £13.5million.

With Jordan Henderson already signed for a whopping £16million, the Anfield giants are well stocked in the central midfielder department, so Meireles may well represent a high-value disposable commodity for the Merseysiders.

:Oo: why do we need to raise funds for a sale?

rubbish i hope. makes no sense selling one of the best performers of last season while players like Konchesky, Ngog, Poulsen, El Zhar, Degen and Jovanovic remain.

If that's true it makes perfect sense. Meireles captured the heart of supporters with some smashing goals but quickly disappeared into anonymity and failed to do the job he was brought to do. Too many games he failed to control and pass the ball and on many others he was just a no show hardly felt. In his position we need an effective dominant player ,one that show's up every day for work.

Raul is OK ,but we have way too much ok's on the squad.

Are you judging him based on his performances as a wide left player or a wide right player ?

I though he did well in many games and was one of the main factors we didnt entirely collapse at some point in the middle of the season. He had to cover in a number of different positions and never really got the chance to play his natural position for a number of games...

I think it would be ridiculous letting him go at this point.

We're supposed to be strengthening our squad FFS, hes one we should never want to let go at the moment, unless of course we're paying double the worth for that Adams bloke

I can kind of see the reasoning in selling him, As much as he did go in a good few months of being our star man, I have 3 reasons why Kenny will let him go.

1) He never managers to play the full 90 mins cos he was knackered.

2) He is going to have to play out wide again because Gerrard will be back and Lucas will be the defensive midfielder and with Henderson and another wide player in this could be unlikely.

3) In the physical games he is too light weight and goes missing.

Absolute farce, if we sell him its a terrible statement from the club. He was one of the better players we had last season and selling for 13 million is crazy. The lad deserves a bit more from the club imho. He was PFA fans player of the year ffs.
