I saw a topic about him being sold the day masch was sold and thought it was :censored:, but it's actually true.
Nice to say Roy working fast to fill in the gaps, lets hope he can fill the boots.

Excuse me mate, I'm not sure I've seen this player playing, has he played in the wing, in the RM role by any chance? or always in CM?

It would be handy if he was an Artetaish player who can play both in the middle and/or in the right.

He tends to be classed as a defensive midfielder, almost always in the centre, hes not a winger at all, doesnt have that much pac but makes himself space with clever runs and little passes, for portugal hes classed as a defensive midfielder, which is :censored:, as they dont really have a defensive midfielder, i think what they class as one and what we class as one is different, long passing ability is great, hes like alonso (although not as good at passing, but then again who is) crossed with a little bit of mash (isnt afraid of a tackle and sticks his leg in) but then also appears on the edge of the box to smash one home from 25 yards.

CLever player who makes his own space, if i had to compare him to anyone, and i really dont like saying this, is a younger Paul Scholes only this guy can tackle without getting sent off.

Sounds like im really overating him here to be honest, but i do feel like he will be a nice missing link between defense to midfield but then also midfield to attack

I must admit I do like like this change whereby anybody who is seen at the club, be it non-playing squad members or new signings or whatever wears the club tie with a shirt. I can only think it's Roys doing, and although it's a bit old fashioned, so am I and I like it.

As far as this lad goes, lets be honest 10.7 million quid in our current financial state is an absolutely massive fee. No player exchanges, just 10.7 million quid, ker-ching. It won't be "up front" and it will be made up of staged payments ("add-ons" if you prefer), but all transfers are so I'm not going to get involved in trying to diminish the importance of the signing by referring to all that nonsense.

I really do think that relatively speaking, this fella is eating up more of our resources than pretty much any signing before him (given how skint we are). As such, it is obviously absolutely pivotal to our cause that he works out well. If he turns out to be Aquilaniesque, it could be a disaster both for the club and for the tenure of the manager so early in the piece. If on the other hand he can be another Alonso, a player who becomes a pivotal part of the team for a few seasons, Roy can build a period of success around him.

He is the most important signing IMHO for a few seasons, and I sincerely hope he's not only as good as most posters seem to believe, but also sufficiently suitable for the hustle and bustle which will allow him to settle quickly.

Agreed Mick, but fear not he is nowhere near an Aquilani, for a start, he can run 50 yards with snapping :) - he must be hard too, look at all his tats :)

So do I, in my eyes he can and should be a very good player for us, he is physical enough to be kicked around by the EPL players, but also skillfull enough to make most of them look silly in midfield with little dragbacks etc before launching a 50 yard pass to Torres sat on the wing ready to jink inside and rattle one home.

OneHotRed, no disrespect, but your praise of the player makes me feel abit nervous, because it can turn out to be the opposite. I'd rather someone do a 'sabre' on this player. "The signing of Torres will be similar to the signing of Morientes I'm afraid..."  :D
