Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

you have to just love modern day football. the guy plays one game and struggles to have much of an impact and already some fans are writing him off. you couldn't make it up.

This kid seems to be a serious waste of 20 million, watched him in the summer for u21's and he was average at best, watched him pre season for liverpool and against sunderland and the same.  Today against arsenal he looks totally unaware of what hes supposed to be doing, hes not closing down players nor looking to join attacks.

Looks a little over-awed by things at the moment and is letting the game pass him by too much.  Don't love him in the hole behind Carroll either.  But, still early days... :D

I kinda don't get the criticism from the Arsenal game, I thought he did very well, but, like Lucas, suffers from the style of play with Carroll up top.  Still think he will work best with Glen on the right, Glen is still the best RB we have and once he comes into the side our right side will change a lot.

We have better players in whatever position Henderson can play... He does very little going forward and doesnt do enough defensively to warrant inclusion..
Id be very disappointed in Kenny if he continues to pick him ahead of players who are not only better than him in every department, but have also earned a starting spot based on performances rather than transfer fee

I agree with this.

He was much better today I thought. Last weekend he kept drifting in and left us very exposed on the right, the more central role obviously suits him more.

We are seeing flashes of potential, but Meireles must start before him in the big games, and if he is still here in September then Aquilani too.

He has been anonymous but today he was really awful, did nothing except break down moves and can only do short passes successfully and did not track back nor pressure the opposition when we lost possession. Perhaps he needs more time, but should have been subbed instead of Kuyt.

Just not good enough to be starting ahead of several other better alternatives.
Doesn't create much at all and is very anonymous.

I won't argue that his place in the starting XI shouldn't be guaranteed but it seems we have a new scapegoat.  Some of the comments on him are OTT imo.  I thought his movement, awareness, touch and passes were very good.  He's very much a pass and move player and alongside Suarez/Raul/Lucas would do well, he doesn't run at people though which is why he needs someone like Glen to overlap/make up for what he lacks in attack.

Exactly.

Kuyt is better on the right, not necessarily because he's a better winger, but because we get more from him then we can from Hendo, especially in these bigger games.

At CM, Aqua and Meireles are better than him.  Aqua may be off, but Meireles should have started today over him for sure.

He's a player for the future and I'm sure in a couple season we will be looking back thinking how great a signing he was, but right now he's not good enough for the starting 11.

TBH It's no different to when Rafa stuck with Lucas. And after a while he has come to be a starter amongst the rest of the squad. Henderson has potential and as long as the rest of the team are performing I don't see any problem with Kenny persevering with him.
