What about Downing at Villa Bam ? You mention him at Boro but he spent 3 years at Villa in between and he was a lot better than Average .

These new owners have done EVERYTHING right so far and we've been able to do things 'the Liverpool way', from keeping the press guessing our next transfer to reviving the fan's hopes and dreams again.

I wouldn't say we are overspending our squad needed significant investment - that was as plain as the nose on your face. Are the players we're signing worth the cash? As of yet nobody knows the answer but I'm sure people are able to make educated guesses whether they are or not. The other day another poster and I had a ''too & throw'' over the signing of Charlie Adam. FWIW I think he has represented good value for money over our other signings. I honestly don't know too much about Henderson to be honest, most neutrals think we've done a 'Citeh' with him and paid over the odds, others like Rawk-ites believe he's the best thing since sliced watermelon. I don't know, I can't say but it is a lot of money and we've been here before with Keane and Aqulliani - albeit not with Kenny. We've also bought some gems like Torres and Suarez at similar prices so it swings in roundabouts. Downing, personally I'm not 'over the moon' about always remember him a Boro being a very ordinary and limited player - even when there was all the hype about him.

I did read an article the other day re Kenny and his signings at LFC, Blackburn and Newcastle and it highlighted that when Kenny generally speaking brought British talent he got fantastic results. I think Ripley and Wilcox at Blackburn (not sure if he bought them in) got so much out of them along with Shearer and Sutton. We all know what he achieved at Liverpool in the 80's. At Newcastle he brought a mixture of foreign and British talent and got mixed results from it.

So Kenny has a good track record getting the best out of British. Also along with the FIFA rules being implemented and our owner's philosophy in recruiting young talent I think it plays into Kenny's hands and to his strengths. If there is one person that can turn players like Downing and Henderson from average and potential (respectively) to important and dependable players Kenny Kan.

good post...like what you did at the end there  :D

Ah, you noticed that, it's good to know somebody reads my posts.  :D

as i said, when you're winning titles and playing CL finals, no one will question your signings all that much.

Think it's going to be a different story this season- that young keeper is going to be under massive pressure and can see he buckling under it

Don't get to watch many other matches over here like I used to in England. So I must fess up and say I haven't seen him player for Villa

Do I have misconceptions about the bloke and are they outdated at that?

Well he has stepped up in performance level since leaving Boro - all the talk from the media in regards Villa was about Young but there best player last season was Downing - he was there guy creating chances and providing the ammunition for Bent .

3 years at Villa  ???

Thought he signed for Villa in the summer of 2009 for around £10-12 million.

Has made around 80 appearances (all comps) and scored 11 goals.

He's never been a player thats caught my attention other than to make me think he's a "nearly man" ie nearly good, hopefully with us he'll become a "really man" ie really good

Ah thought it was 2008 - not sure why someone looks at a players stats ( except strikers ) the first they post is goals scored ? it's his delivery and ability out wide that is crucial , any goals he gets is a bonus - last season he scored 7 in the prem and think 7 direct assists while also contributing to another load of goals - it's the provision of goals and assists which we will be looking for from him .

I'm :censored: ecstatic about our signings and could care less if the media/fans think we overpaid.  ANY top manager in the world has different ideas on players to buy but he best managers know who fits in with what they want to do and what they don't want to do and imo Kenny is up there.  Had Rafa been backed like Kenny has we would have been much better off so I'm very happy to finally see our manager finally buying his primary targets and not having to settle.

We've been crying out for backing from owners and now that we've got it were gonna moan? ffs, does my head in really.  No one here knows what we need better than Kenny, I hate using that as a reason too but it is true.  I'm not saying trust every single buy but right now personally we haven't made a bad one imo.  They are all quality players, massive improvements on what we have.  Had he bought Paul Konchesky, Christian Poulsen or Carlton Cole maybe we'd have a reason to worry.  Now those were some average at their prime :censored: players.

I'll go along with that we haven't made any bad ones but I'm not yet convinced we've made any great one's.

For me, Adam should prove to be a very good signing, Downing the jury is still very much out, Henderson more of a player for the future don't expect to see much of him this season and Doni is just a back up.

It is quite interesting that people already think Adam will be a good signing yet unsure about Downing ! Is that all down to the price tag ?

Downing performed better last season throughout the whole season where as Adam had a good first 6 months then went off the boil .

Downing fills a position which we have needed for years where as I think Adam won't make the best 11 ?

No, it's probably because they've seen more quality from Adam than they have from Downing

Is this a case of - 'whomever we buy will be good enough then'?

On a consistent basis ? How many times have people actually seen Adam play ? Twice against us ?

Not at all .

It's buying someone who has proven himself in the prem filling a position we have needed for years. Someone who ticks the boxes.
