whether youve seen him or not Lee, its an educated call  :D

does that mean we wont sign a player of his type in the summer? IMO its what we need and relying on a free transfer to cut the mustard is hugely risky

Skysports.com understands Liverpool have agreed a pre-contract to sign Rennes midfielder Sylvain Marveaux.

Marveaux, who is out of contract at Rennes at the end of the season, has been a long-term target for the Reds.

Rennes are resigned to losing the 24-year-old when his contract expires and Liverpool are thought to have agreed a deal to bring Marveaux to Anfield.

The Premier League outfit are thought to have beaten off interest from a number of clubs to land the highly-rated winger.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is keen to bolster his options in wide areas and he sees Marveaux as someone who will help provide ammunition for new strikeforce Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has been pushing for a deal for Marveaux and he is expected to be the first of many arrivals at Liverpool this summer

Another injury prone player... hope he's just a replacement for Rodriguez/Jovanovic/Cole and that we'll still be signing Young or some other world-class winger.

Ya I hope it's planned that he's a squad player.  Tho I guess it's better we sign him on a free then summer comes and goes and we are unable to sign a winger for both sides.

Sylvain Marveaux a left sided winger from French team Rennes on the way on a free transfer according to skysports. If it's true sounds ok, nothing to get really excited about.

Wiki Info:

Sylvain Marveaux (born 15 April 1986) is a French football player who currently plays for French club Rennes in Ligue 1. He can play a variety of positions in the midfield, but is mostly utilized as a left-sided midfielder or an attacking midfielder. Marveaux is a former French under-21 international having earned caps with the team from 2006–2008. He is the younger brother of Joris Marveaux, who currently stars for Montpellier. The younger Marveaux has been at Rennes since 2001 and, following the departure of Jimmy Briand in 2010, became the longest-serving player currently at the club.

Not a problem with this.  As long as it's a signing to simply strengthen the squad depth, which i imagine it is.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Time will tell.

Better to experiment with free transfers than marquee signings.

Even if it's not confirmed, I'm pretty sure it's happening. It's allegedly happened 5 times now since January, so either way I'm pretty sure he'll be playing for us come summer.

Its depressig that these are the standard of players we ar looking at when oly afew sesons ago e were bringing in the likes of Torres Xabi Mascherano etc.

Yeah but Torres,Xabi,Mascherano weren't world beaters back then. For God Sake,Macherrano was in the West Ham reserves.Sure Man U were after Torres but he was a huge gamble. And Xabi wasn't world famous either. It was all because Rafa brought this players to Anfield that there famous. Now all of them are playing for either,Barcelona,Real Madrid or Chelsea!

Torres was a world beater mate before he came to Liverpool, so was Xabi Alonso who was highly rated in spain and was going to Real Madrid before he was going to Liverpool but the deal fell through.

got to admit I wasn't convinced by the signing of Torres, his goal scoring record in Spain was anything but that of a 'world beater'. I wouldn't say Xabi was either, though he was probably highly rated and Masch....well we rescued that little mother :censored:a from the depths of West Ham's ressies
