So what can we do

Please use this forum for general Non-Football related chat

Following on from Metalheads What the hell happened this place thread I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what we can do to make the place a bit more lively.

St Mike came up with an idea to get rid of the official threads in Liverpool FC - General Discussion. I think this might be a good idea as at the moment the forum has a similar look to it all the time, so doing this would change the look of the topics and get more people posting.

A lot of the main posters have either stopped posting or just post very rarely.

Here is the top 30 posters

I can't speak for anyone else here but even if the layout was different I probably wouldn't be posting any more at the moment. I don't have any problems with the layout tbh, maybe a nice skin for the forum but that's just me getting bored with the same old look. I am just too busy with work and other commitments these days to post.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Hi Guys,

I have a lot of affection for this forum and it's a worthwhile resource for LFC fans everywhere.

I know I don't post anything like the amount of time I used to but it's nothing to do with the quality of this site just simply that I don't have the time to devote to the forum that I used to. With 2 young children and a busy working life it's simply impossible to be here as much as I would like.

To the team of guys who put considerable effort into making this forum work thank you. I for one don't make the effort to thank the army of volunteers who keep the site up and running.

Walk on ...............

For one, this is a Liverpool FC forum.  There is only so much to talk about before things get repetitive or off-topic, mostly off-topic.  I like that it's a Liverpool forum only tho, and some times off-topic stuff is amusing.  I joined a football forum before this and posted 5 times before I was tired of the ignorance and ridiculous things people would say.  Really we just need more solid members.  I don't know how you can get more solid members, but we need them.  I searched for a Liverpool website and the one that came up first was that red white and kop forum.  I even looked at joining that one but the site was down, did some more looking around and found the site.

I think some of the posts are so badly backed up as well it's overwhelming.  You click on something and there's 300 pages worth of posts.  New members can be instantly overwhelmed and won't want to bother, or guests who are checking out the site will not sign up because they think maybe the forum is not being kept up with.  When you are new or haven't read a post yet, where do you start? If you can't start from the beginning because it's so long, where do you start? In the middle? 2 pages from the end? If so you come in during the middle of all these conversations and debates and you just don't know what the hell is going on.  I know I have stayed away from quite a few topics because I didn't even know where to begin, so I just stayed out of it.

We could also possibly use more topics per section.  Some of these sections haven't been talked on for a month. If people are starting new topics, we need some people to bring something that's valuable up for conversation.

I know we are just an LFC forum, but I think we should get more on here about other clubs.  We do have stuff about other clubs, but it's like Balotelli is an idiot.  Ireland is an idiot.  Blah blah is an idiot.  We don't have any decent conversation about other clubs.

Same goes for other leagues as well.  We don't talk about other leagues much at all.  So many times on this forum, I have heard these people who claim to "watch all this football" and see all these players we are talking about.  People get in arguments about how good players are when one claim they have seen them play and one claim they haven't.  I highly doubt either has ever seen much of them either way, but people thinks it makes them sound smart and dedicated for whatever reason.  This could help us understand things a lot better, know what to expect in Europe, give us a more experienced opinion in some ways even.  Probably get us more interested in football all together and it will get others interested in the forum.  They won't just think we are biased LFC fans, but interested in football in general.

Just a few thoughts :p

Some of the regulars usually just browse, and I hope they add to the discussion a bit more.

Lets hope in the summer we can see more discussion going on about our rebuilding phase.

Plus, lets just bring back some of our banned posters who were terrific posters, like s@int and bigmick.

I dont think those posters are banned MH mate. Secondly from what Ive seen getting banned doesnt really stop you from posting here if you really want to

I think it will pick up in the summer as Cool H Luke this season is dead and the place probably could do with this some quiet time after all the Before Kenny acrimony

the loss of key posters and characters for various reasons over the past few months is the cause of the current sad state of this forum. its nothing to do with trivialities such as formats and topic titles, and maybe not even so much to do with the season as it stands. there is actually still plenty to discuss, if only people could be ar'sed.

short of trying to woo some of the lost members back, or hoping some of the newer ones step up to the plate, i'm not really sure what the solution is. i think the place probably needs to take itself less seriously though for a start.

As Dalglish said, I have a lot of affection for the forum, I have read it regularly for nearly seven years. I think, however, it may have peaked some time ago, and may now be in a slow terminal decline. It's hard to be sure of that so I certainly think it's worth trying to improve things, as I have enjoyed the forum for a long time. I'm heading away for a year and see this as a valuable link to LFC when I'm away.

My suggestions:

1. Review the moderators. Red37, whilst a brilliant contributor in the past, simply doesn't post anymore. Give someone else a go. Ask the rest of the mods if they want to continue in their current role. Are they involved enough in the forum to be moderators? Many great posters have modded for a while then stepped aside when they have been unable/unwilling to contribute. Is it time for some of the current bunch to do the same? Maybe it's not, they've all done a great job and may want to actively continue, but if there not interested anymore - step down. Maybe no-one else wants to moderate anyway?

Personally, I think Dundalk has contributed more to the forum than anyone else, and it's a no brainer that he should be offered the position, if he wants it. There are others like Metalhead, Andy_G, Nan, Dawson, LFC_2007, Ben Patrick who could be options but may not want it. I'm not sure it will revive the forum, but it's surely worth a go?

2. Mass unbanning. There are many high post count contributors who have been banned. Unban them all, unless they have massively crossed the line, declare a complete amnesty, and see who comes back. We need them.

The top posters arent the best posters, just us old timers who post drivel too much. Recently it got personal between a lot of us. I was a d!ck to cigs (who i have known on here longer than most) and she was a d!ck to me. There were a lot of arguaments, but that wasn't the worst.

It was the preaching from the do gooders that took out the fun.

I have had my run ins with Lando, and mostly he talks out of his @ss, but I miss those rants. I got on best with s@int, but he aint ever coming back. Big Mick will return under some new guise.

The mods do there best but since Woof got the uniform hes quitened down, as have the others. They dont wanna be milk monitors but somebody has to do it.

Dunno what will change the forum, not much, it's more or less over, a new batch will come on, things will get busy again but for most of us I think we see football as a business more than a passion now. It's getting harder to be as passionate about a game where money rules, loyalty is almost extinct, and any multi billionarire can change the face of the game.

As for on here, lets get rid of the cards, make me a mod and open the fit gals thread to full frontal action to get Lando back :D
