He is shellshocked, he really believed the things where looking up under Kenny, but that Torres was a disgrace under Roy, They are saying we should say you want Torres then give us Drogba, or Anelka.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

torres

Chelsea are preparing to make a third bid for Fernando Torres following the news that Liverpool rejected a transfer request from the Spanish striker on Friday night.

It is understood that having failed with offers of £28 million and £32 million, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to sanction a bid of £35 million plus the £5 million-rated Daniel Sturridge in order to bring Torres to Stamford Bridge.

That offer would represent a British transfer record, but it remains to be seen whether it would be enough to convince Liverpool to sell the striker, who has scored 65 goals in 102 Premier League games for the club since his move from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007.

Torres has made his own perspective clear having shocked the club's fans by submitting a written transfer request on Friday. Liverpool subsequently announced that the request had been denied as manager Kenny Dalglish is determined to retain the services of the Spain international.

However, it is understood that Torres is desperate to play Champions League football - a scenario that looks deeply unlikely at Liverpool for next season, even if the club are on the brink of signing Ajax forward Luis Suarez for £22.8 million.

Chelsea have left it late in the transfer window to secure Torres but hope to sign the striker prior to the deadline closing on Monday night at 11pm.

The Blues are also considering whether to increase their offer for Benfica defender David Luiz to £25 million after seeing talks collapse with the Portuguese club on Friday.

It is understood Abramovich has been advised to complete the two transfers in January, rather than the summer, in order to make it easier for Chelsea to comply with UEFA's incoming Financial Fair Play regulations.

A source told ESPNsoccernet: "The snag over Luiz for example has been quite small, but Abramovich has been told that he must spend now because if he wants to keep within the new rules, it will be more difficult in the summer.

"January is not normally the time when the big clubs recruit in this way, but it is an exception because of what is coming up in the summer."

At this stage of the transfer window, unless we have another ace in the bag, we'll end up with a single recognised striker who hasn't played for weeks, trying to settle into a new league, new style of playing....meanwhile our star striker is returning to form and heading off to one of our main competitors in the Premiership.
I sincerely hope Comolli knows what the fook he's doing....

its a decent point, john. he's definitely not the player he was a couple of years ago but i'm not totally convinced he won't get back close to that level. we've noticed 2 or 3 times this season when he's suddenly snapped out of his sulk for a few seconds that he can still be deadly, so its pretty much all still there. whether he can remain consistent and injury free is another matter though.

if we are going to sell him at any point then now is probably the time as he'll never be worth this much again. despite that though, summer would have been better than now. i can't help hoping now that he'll have trouble staying fit, and that chelsea will have 50 million pounds of practice for their doctor.

I say tell him we will sell him in the summer and then hope him and Suarez start firing.  If he still wants to go we sell him back to Spain for 50 mill
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I really don't think he's worth the £40 million and if we can get a young promising striker in on the deal then I think its great business. I'm very curious to see how he gets on with Drogba, he's already a sulky git, how much will he like being sat on the bench because in all honesty I think Drogba is a far better striker than him, much more consistent, ok with the exception of the last few months maybe.

I think if Chelsea stump up somewhere between 40 and 50 that will be enough to take him but not a player exchange. I wouldnt be suprised if we are already lining up an emergency plan to bring in a forward should the Chelsea deal end up being right for us. A lad like Benzema on loan with view to a permanant transfer would be ideal but times against us.

Kenny Jackett was on Football Focus just now and said he would be very surprised if Liverpool allow Torres to join Chelsea.
