Saw the remake of True Grit the other night.  It was a lot of fun at first and I was quite enjoying it--Bridges and Damon do fine work, the dialogue's got that salty Western flavour layered with the Coen Bros. unmistakable offbeat wit and the young girl's an absolute scene stealer.  Somehow, though, the ending just felt rushed...like they'd taken all this time to build things up and then just stomped on the gas as things were about to come to a head.  A little disappointing in that regard but still worth a look.

Saw that nearly twenty years ago with the slugs and it still stick in mind though Devin DeVasquez may have had something to do with it

Not sure if it was a TV movie or mini series but just watched the BBC/German production Sinking of Laconia

As WW2 buff was quite intrigued by this true story and quite enjoyed the production.

Good cast of both British and German actors which recreates the sinking of a Allied troopship which was only carrying civilians and Italian POWs by a German U-boat. The commander of which then decides to help the survivors which causes headaches commanders on both sides

Well last night, after all the reviews on here about Children of Men I thought ok, lets you tube the trailer. So I thought right i'll have that, once I got it I thought i'll watch it tomorrow.

And of course, just looking at the listings as to whats on TV tonight.....

have quite literally just finished watching it, and felt the need to come on here and tell you that - even as a diehard portman fan - you'd be better of spending 2 hours poking yourself in the eye with a toilet brush.

I'm a massive Aranofsky fan, love Kunis and Ryder. Cassel is class, don't see why I woldn't like.

Requiem for a Dream is one of my top movies...

But I'll wait for the DVD  :D

Postby RED BEERGOGGLES » Wed Jan 12, 2011 7:30 pm

Just watched the fighter with Walhberg and Bale (Irish Mickey Ward and Dickie Eklund )....thoroughly enjoyed it ... its the true story of one brothers battle to escape his older siblings vast shadow ,and said siblings ongoing fight against crack dependency, and the pitfalls of fame ....but Bale's performance as the ex pro turned junkie  is intense .... with cameos from Sugar Ray Leonard who Eklund fought and actually put on the canvas at one point ,and culminating with Wards   Welterweight Championship bout with Shea Neary.
8/10 for the best boxing film since Eastwood's Million dollar Baby ....

Worth a watch trailer Buried

well, i finally got round to watching it and its a pretty cool film. its an impressive feat to make it so gripping  - seeing as all we have is a man in a box - but the actor does brilliantly and the script manages to steer clear of major cliches. i imagine that on the big screen it would have been especially effective.
