Takers, thought I was gonna hate this movie about a gang of very organised bank/armoured car robbers but despite all the cliches the action was pretty engrossing, one foot chase by the cops after one of the gang (Chris Brown) was one of the best chase scenes I've seen  in recent years. Image 6.5/10

Jesus, Woof, you sure you haven't got those two mixed up ratings wise? Takers is one of those films that should go straight to TV, nevermind straight to DVD. It was full of rappers that can't act for sh*t, and some of the worste directed action sequences I've ever seen. I reckon it'll be a channel Five regualar in a few years along with Segal and Van Damme movies. It was w@nk to put it mildly.

The Town was actually fairly decent. Slow to start, but it turned out to be a fairly good crime/heist action drama. It was well directed too, with some really decent gun battles. Affleck's obviously taken a lot of hints from Mann's Heat. It was also good to see Postelthwaith's Irish accent hold up too, which is a rare thing to see from anyone who isn't Irish playing someone who is.

I know you are mate no bother.

Although now that you mention it Rafa was 1 thing missing from that film. Christopher Nolan is obviously an anti.

:D , To be honest thats what I was thinking before I watched the movie. Yeah , it wasn't great, maybe it was just the mood I was in, just veging out on the couch, as I really enjoyed some of the action sequences, particularly the foot chase.

The Town was superior in many ways but for me ultimately it was even more forgettable than Takers.

Slow year for films. Just shows how much sh*te is being made when Takers is found to be entertaining.

new year was celebrated by an at home night at the movies. first up was the 'family' movie - avatar.... and jeeeeesus christ, it was even worse than i thought it was going to be. i think the only reason it had to be so long was in order to cram in all the cliches and stereotypes cameron wanted. granted, it looks quite good, even on the small screen but eye candy alone doesn't get you through 3 hours of painful dross. my lad loved it though, of course.

after he wen to bed we put on 'the ghost writer'. this is more like it! a hitchcock style thriller from roman polanski about a ghost writer (ewen mcgregor) that travels over to the states to help an ex british pm (pierce brosnan) write up his autobiography. dirty secrets, intrigues, betrayals, and death threats all follow. brilliantly acted, brilliantly paced and brilliantly conceived.

saw another excellent film last night - the white ribbon by michael haneke. its set in a small german village just before the onset of WW1, where unexplained and unpleasant things happen to some of the villagers. the whole film explores the idea of abuse and repression, and the possible effects on people who are treated inhumanely. its not as 'in your face' disturbing as some of haneke's other films but is unsettling and captivating throughout. the beautiful black and white cinematography and impeccable acting from adult and children members of the cast makes it quite a special film.
