I think some players have too many sponsorship contractual agreements mate, having said that the lad is injured so the manager should be within his rights to hold him back. Don't know enough about the injury myself and what it entails tbh mate but all ill say is ill be gutted if he comes back injured. None more so than Roy though.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

I don't disagree. But my comment still stands -

For me he was the single reason we didn't win yesterday.

Unlike Maxi he is expected to score those chances, they were bread and butter opportunities. Clean through with only the keeper to beat, come on...

Torres will bounce back, but yesterday it was those misses that ultimately cost us. He could be forgiven for missing one of them but he missed all of them and worst still he didn't even get a single shot off.

It seems that we cannot continue our debate in the evaluation thread and fairly so
:D

so I'll continue it here in Torres' thread. I agree that these chances missed came back to haunt us, but lets evaluate Torres' performance as a whole in the game against Tottenham. We can't generally take 2 misses and evaluate his performance, we have to take everything the overall performance. Overall, he was really good and especially his movement off the ball and the way he anticipated the through balls to create his chance. Second, his passing was really good and he laid off a beauty to Maxi, which Maxi fluffed and his passing in general was excellent. He gave Tottenham a worry when they pushed higher up the pitch and that was good to see. The only negative is that his misses did let him down and eventually came back and bit us in the :censored:, I hope he learns from it and go back to scoring next game.

Whilst not  biting on the bait ......... I'm baffled by  how the Lad has lost his edge ...his performances lately have been strange to say the least, from his clinical best in front of goal against Chelsea ,to the lows of completely fluffing his lines at White Hart lane ....
I have forever been advocating playing Maxi up front with the lad ...and an attacking  formation seems the one that best suits Torres
We should have won against Spurs ,but we need another striker with the same knack for producing  similar class ...and Ngog isn't the answer he's still too naive ..... on another day Torres would have been taking home the match ball its as simple as that

I think Torres still suffers from lack of confidence, and has all season, either he wants out, or maybe he is feeling the extent of his injuries affecting his form. He is being inconsistent, and the only way for him to gain form and get a consistent run under his belt is winning games. I think its a good shout putting Maxi in as a second striker, their link up against Tottenham showed that there is more to come from them. I also think, to an extent (yes I'm changing my mind about the tactics affecting him) that he will be better suited when our team play higher up the pitch and when we play a more direct style of play (i.e, throwing the ball for him to run into it)

Liverpool's Fernando Torres has been rewarded for his goalscoring performances against Bolton and Chelsea last month with the ESPN PFA Fan's Player of the Month for November.

I think injuries have caught up with Torres to be honest. His performance against Chelsea was him at his best and a couple of years back he was that hot every week but not anymore. I hope for all our sakes he can regain that consistency, the old magic, week in week out, but what we appear to be experiencing is the edge taken off a footballer after countless injury issues. We see flashes of genius, and its still enough but hes not what he was thats pretty clear at this point. Perhaps new blood at the club can relight the fire in him but only time will tell.

He is going the same way as Kewell and we only have ourselves to blame. We decided to carry on playing both of them despite both needing an operation and an extended period of recovery. Instead we decided to “manage” the injuries with special training and physio sessions and both physically deteriorated. My guess is that if we had 2 other respectable strikers last season Torres would have had an operation when the injury first flared up and 3-4 months of rehabilitation and conditioning before making a comeback.

Torres isnt like Owen where you could see he was physically :censored: or Fowler to that extent. Torres' is all mental. He needs confidence and more importnatly a lot of help from the team. When he was on fire, yes he was up front alone, but, the rest of the players got so much closer to him. Yossi, Riera, Gerrard,Kuyt, Alonso passes were inch perfection.

Its a team game and when you play as a team, (first half chelsea) you see a totally different player. A world class athlete who scores for fun

Completely agree with that. He seems to me to have lost a bit of pace and sharpness through injury, and for me his touch has seemed well off this season. Yet, he's still capable of producing sublime finishes, as against Chelsea and Wigan. The team will need to be rejuvenated in order for him to return to his consistent best, though.

he needs help thats all, a partner to take the weight off his shoulders and occupy the defenders to make space for him, wingers to pull the fullbacks outwide, he cant do it all on his own espeacially now when hes not fully fit or sharp and out midfield arnt gettin close enough to him.

hes still one of the best in the world imo and if he had stuck that chance against tottenham away these ^^ sort of comments wouldnt be getting made, get in some players who can make space and chances for him aswell as score a few themselves and we will see nando back to his best im sure of it

Hmm... surgeries don't usually solve the entire problem does it? you still have the risk for the injury to come back again.

Well I don't know, I'm not a doctor or a physio, but it seems to be the case sometimes for players.

Hardly surprising he's feeling the weight. Liverpool have for FAR too long been "Gerrard'n'Torres F.C.".

Being stuck up top on his own for much of his LFC career has simply crushed a once brilliant player.

Makes no difference in the end to Liverpool really as he won't be here next season. That's a sure fire bet.
