We need a new striker too. Any idea who he is looking at if we don't get that Swedish guy? We should have a look at Zarate.

Jesus wept - Carlton Cole....what a joke.
I see Konchesky was left out of the Fulham team today - wonder if that was deliberate 'cos he's on his way to us.....feck's sake - I hope not...

I hope we get Konchesky. He's a good full back, a kind of left footed Steve Finnan who will be in our top five performers every game of the season. He's no slouch, is decent in the air, a good defender, knocks a great ball in and is a good pro. If he was playing for Shalke with a name like Konchesky and had been capped a couple of times for Germany then people would be all over him for 3 million quid. As it is, he's spent most of his career at Charlton and a bit of it at Fulham, so he'll actually have to prove he's a good player before people believe it.

I prefer Figeroa, but Konchesky is a good player.

Was thinking earlier that it didn't work out too badly the last time we signed a fullback off Fulham.  I think it's possible that people forget some of the fullbacks we've had when they slag off Konchesky.  With the notable exception of Glen Johnson-- who is a slice above, whatever his critics may say--we've always had workmanlike fullbacks.  Whether it's Finnan, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Riise, Insua, Warnock, Kromkamp etc. (I'm leaving out the sh!te like Dossena, Degen, Josemi, Traore etc.) we've not really been one for the marquee fullbacks in recent years.  When considering that reality, Konchesky looks a decent enough choice and at a price we can afford.  Can't see the problem, really.

I'm not too sure... Konchesky doesn't strike me as being as cultured a fullback as Finnan was... because I remember Finnan was one of the outstanding performers in the league, let alone Fulham, during the 2-3 years before he joined us. I remember thinking it would be great to have a player like that in our team, the same way I thought about Agbonlahor and James Milner 2-3 years back (but now we've missed the boat). And when he joined us I was really happy. Konchesky doesn't have that effect on me. He seems more like a stop-gap option, decent and probably better than what we have now, but definitely not someone who can give us 4-5 years of consistent quality ala Steve Finnan.

Roy distances the club from a move for Ola Toivonen, saying: "He doesn't fit the profile of the type of player we want."
