yes i agree but knowing us we want bid for him. Had this argument with benny before and he reckoned we couldnt afford fabiano. I dont anyone say his wages will be to high. I dont care!

Well we have been linked with 10+ million targets all summer long...and until this point we actually haven't spent anything if you consider the players that have been sold.

Dunno, mate. I don't put much faith in the fact that we've been linked with 10 million plus players myself. The press is always full of whispers about who we might sign but that doesn't mean we've made an official inquiries or tabled any serious bids for players in that transfer bracket. As for selling, by my estimation we've raised about 9 million pounds selling Yossi and Riera but have spent a good portion of that on Poulsen, Brad Jones and young Danny Wilson. If we're operating on a sell before you buy policy, I can't see us having the cash for Fabiano unless a deal for Masch goes through. It may happen--you never know--but I'm not holding my breath that we'll splash out 15 million pounds on anyone this transfer window.

Bayer Leverkusen executive Wolfgang Holzhauser has confirmed that Sami Hyypia wanted to re-sign for Liverpool.

New Anfield manager Roy Hodgson confessed earlier in August that he had unsuccessfully attempted to prise the veteran centre-back out of the remaining one year of his contract in Germany.

Hyypia left Liverpool at the end of the 2008/09 season when former boss Rafa Benitez decided not to offer the ex-Finland defender a new deal after 10 years on Merseyside.

But Holzhauser has confirmed that Hyypia was keen to return to England, having worked with summer appointment Hodgson at international level.

Holzhauser told the Express newspaper: "Sami came to us asking if there would be any chance to return to Liverpool.

"We had an open discussion. Sami accepted straight away that we were desperate to keep him here.

"He is too important for us and a valuable part of our first-team squad. We could easily imagine keeping Sami at our club for more than the remaining year of his contract.

"He may add another season on the pitch and we are also considering adding him to our backroom staff afterwards, if he wants."

According to reports, Hodgson wanted to offer Hyypia a four-year contract that would see the 36-year-old play until June 2011 before moving into a role as assistant manager.

Not really a rumour that is linked to us but...

Real Madrid are ready to offload some of their fringe players as Jose Mourinho looks to trim his first-team squad.

The Portuguese has been busy in the transfer market this summer and has added Mesut Ozil, Angel di Maria, Ricardo Carvalho, Sami Khedira, Sergio Canales and Pedro Leon to an already star-studded squad.

Mourinho is now expected to allow the players he deems surplus to requirements to depart Santiago Bernabeu with a selection of star names likely to become available.

Holland international Rafael van der Vaart, midfield duo Lassana and Mahamadou Diarra and Argentina's Fernando Gago could all be on the market.

General manager Jorge Valdano confirmed the expected departures from the club and revealed there could be movement soon with the end of the transfer window looming.

Valdano told Marca: "We have 26 players right now, so we need to lighten the squad and it will happen in the coming days.

"This position does not affect the Spanish players currently on our books."
