Spirit Of Shankly - ShareLiverpoolFC Statement
Friday 6th August 2010

Spirit Of Shankly – ShareLiverpoolFC is aware of the increasing speculation regarding the potential sale of our club. We can confirm that Spirit Of Shankly - ShareLiverpoolFC (SOS-SL) have made contact with those involved in the transaction process to register our interest in acquiring a shareholding on behalf of our constituents.

We have received a polite and positive response and have passed on details of the role an SOS-SL supporter stake might ultimately play in the ownership of our Club, and we await developments.

We would all clearly welcome the prospect of the departure of the Club’s present owners. However we also want to make sure that the Club, the directors responsible for overseeing the sales process, as well as the financial institutions involved, are aware of their responsibility to ensure that if the Club is sold, it is sold to the most suitable owners, who have the interests of the Club and its fans at heart. In that event, we would seek supporter involvement in any proposed purchase.

Whilst selling the club, the interests of Liverpool’s supporters must be considered. Supporters make this club what it is, we provide it’s value – financially through branding, merchandising and sponsorship opportunities, and emotionally through unwavering support for our club, the famed “12th man” which makes our club so special. Any prospective new owner should be fully aware of this and we would expect that new owners would seek to develop a mutually co-operative relationship between the supporters, the club and its owners as a matter of urgency and for the benefit of all parties.

With so much speculation and misinformation, we cannot be sure of the intentions and resources of ‘interested parties’. We do understand that Hicks & Gillett's overriding objective will be to sell the club to the highest bidder in order to extract as large a profit as possible. This will not be in the best interest of the club, or the fans and it must not bear influence on who the club is sold to. The club must be sold to those who are ‘fit and proper’ and who will be ‘true custodians’ who have the necessary expertise and resources to restore our great club to its rightful place.

As a consequence, those responsible for overseeing the sale need to ensure that, as a minimum, any new owner is the right person for the football club and it’s supporters, not for the profit they can provide to greed driven businessmen.

The long-term future of this football club, as well as any investment in it, is entirely dependent on the goodwill and support of the fans. Supporter ownership of the Club remains the overriding goal. Should we have new owners, we need to know what role supporters can play, to make sure the problems of the past three years are not repeated and to make sure that supporter issues are heard.

We’ve been in this situation before. The last decision regarding the ownership of Liverpool FC proved to be the most disastrous in the history of the Club. We cannot afford to let anyone else get it wrong again. The supporters can help them get it right.

Make sure you are on board. Make sure your friends are too – tell them about it, pass on the message that we can and will be a part of it. Now more than ever, we have to come together, stand together, and unite to make a change, to protect our club.

What a crock.

We can confirm that Spirit Of Shankly - ShareLiverpoolFC (SOS-SL) have made contact with those involved in the transaction process to register our interest in acquiring a shareholding on behalf of our constituents.

The one question I have is, what will happen to the SOS once the yanks are gone? They are their own institution now. There is money to be made. As long as supporters are willing to invest in the SOS, and they are, there is a nice steady little nest egg. And of course other anti-yank supporters doing their bit. The best example is the shirt recently created and sold. The "Standards Cheated" or whatever it was. People were asking, why buy it? the club is up for sale? but of course the argument was they are still here. So other questions were asked, like is this a last ditch attempt to make money knowing that the yanks are going and so every opportunity has to be exploited? The reply was no, the shirts are not designed by the SOS, in fact the SOS has nothing to do with it. Fair enough. But delve deeper, the shirts are not made by the SOS but all profits from sales are going to the SOS. How convenient.

Supposing they do get a shareholding in the club, what do all members who have paid for an SOS membership gain from it? I can hazard a guess.

We have received a polite and positive response and have passed on details of the role an SOS-SL supporter stake might ultimately play in the ownership of our Club, and we await developments.

Rather than the role the supporters in general can play?

We would all clearly welcome the prospect of the departure of the Club’s present owners. However we also want to make sure that the Club, the directors responsible for overseeing the sales process, as well as the financial institutions involved, are aware of their responsibility to ensure that if the Club is sold, it is sold to the most suitable owners, who have the interests of the Club and its fans at heart. In that event, we would seek supporter involvement in any proposed purchase.

Ahhh, what better way to promote thyself than offering yourself as a voice of the supporters. Again, this whole message, to me at least, stinks. The SOS are trying to get themselves into a good position. Like I said, they know the yanks are almost out of the door, the SOS after the yanks are gone wont be needed, so now, by using the fan-base opinion of the yanks, they are trying their best to promote themselves, to maintain their ideal position.

The famed "12th man" supported the players on the pitch. SOS chose a high profile game (Man United) to air their views rather than be that "12th man". And also I dont care if new owners are involved with us. Clear the debt and provide the club with what it needs. I refer to the Lakes debacle in the takeover thread, the general census is who cares about the propaganda that is being suggested as long as the club is in good stead, and yet the SOS take a different stance.

I wont go on, I know the kind of response I will get from those supporting the SOS. Needless to say, I disagree totally.

The SOS are in it for themself. They dont represent me, they dont represent a lot of supporters. They are robbing the gullible, they are playing on the emotions of supporters to elevate themself. And in time, especially when the yanks are gone, you will see for yourself.

Some pretty hefty accusations there kharhaz mate . needless to say you need to visit the SOS site and you will see where every penny is accounted for . As for the Standards corrupted shirts , there nowt to do with SOS ,they were an idead from lads on rawk and they've ran with it . You seriously need to get your facts straight before you start throwing around accusations like you have

Hope that helps  :)

Once the costs were covered for the shirts, the profits went to the SoS and the HJC. So my homework is done. I cannot fathom why we have to pay to be a member? If its a union then surely anyone can join for free?

Now I know that with protests costs have to be met, If things need doing then surely all those who agree with getting the yanks out will do so for free but put the hard work in.
And also donations, rather than insist liverpool supporters pay to become a member, why not offer a donation policy, explaining that you are a liverpool supporter but running websites etc require costs. Little things like this would change my whole attitude towards them. It really would unite the supporters totally, by working together. The SoS would have no complaints or agenda theories as it would simply be doing something that supporters can join in with without having to spend. Anyone can print of fliers created and pop them through letterboxes. Yes it costs money for the individual to buy paper and the ink, but this would be the donation for a good cause.

As it currently stands though, it isn't set up like that. The fact you have to pay to be a member, to me, stinks. The fact that you have to renew your membership at a further cost, also stinks. Every protest can be made with little costs involved, old bedsheets emblazoned with "YANKS OUT" is just as effective as waving a flyer with the SoS symbol on it.

Im all for getting the yanks out, same as everyone else. If flyers need to be designed and printed off, then yes, I will do my bit, or find a way. But I refuse to hand over money simply to segregate myself from the rest of the liverpool supporters.

A case in example: When rafa was let go, and the flag was burned. The SoS claimed they had nothing to do with that. So no members were involved then?

The munich song. Again the SoS tried to deny that wasnt their fault. And yet when they started singing it, and everyone was joining in, that was down to a small group of idiots. So no members involved then? although it was a SoS party?

And yet when Hicks Jnr sent that email there were calls from the SoS for action, for him to be sacked and yet regarding the shameful munich performance, that was just swept under the carpet. I cant help but feel the hypocrisy here.

And of course the shirts, the SoS deny having any involvement. So my question is, what do they do? aside from protest marches and chants during a match, where is the money going? Because it seems to me, the events that really bring attention to the cause are nothing to do with the SoS.
As they simply deny playing any part whatsoever.

No luck needed, just answers. I have many doubts about the SoS and the only reply I ever get is look on the website, or I am an idiot. There has never been an effort to put my doubts to rest, just an insult or a dodging of questions. Like Question Time in a way.

I hope you don't mind me picking a few holes in your conspiracy theories there Fella .... firstly this may seem a tad presumptious of me ,but am I to believe you yourself have never had any intention of joining S.O.S nor the endeavour or heart to personally attend any meetings or indeed any rallies in order to provide a much needed voice to our cause ...... ???
Then if that is the case wouldnt you say it was somewhat hypocritical of you to suggest S.O.S have other more malevolent aims for the club ..... you see why I personally feel aggrieved is that you felt the overwhelming desire to proffer your view without taking into account the feelings of the "Card Carrying Members of such an institution who have attended many an event rally or meeting in order to draw up contingency plans in order to repel our heinous owners .....
and have done so in their own precious time

I think ...and I may not be alone here  ???  that people who offer such views should have at least the experience of giving up a Saturday to post the flyers you speak of  ??? maybe then and only then will it add a touch more credence to their ridiculous claims ....
Totally shocked and dismayed by this post Kharhaz ...maybe you could provide an inventory on just what relevant actions you personally took ..... I'm sure it will make for avid reading  :no
anyway this is all I am going to say on that matter ...well at least until you read some literature
"YOU DONT WANT TO JOIN ...THEN DONT " simple really but please in future dont scoff at those who believe it to be a bastion for common sense with I might add no personal financial gain for those who front it

I dont mind you picking holes at all. I have doubts, I would like them to be allayed. I would become a member at the drop of a hat, but I cant help but feel there are those who are taking advantage of our situation.

Then if that is the case wouldnt you say it was somewhat hypocritical of you to suggest S.O.S have other more malevolent aims for the club

Thats not my aim, the aim of SoS is what is making me question them.

The members have. The people in charge of the SoS have denied all knowledge of all actions taken. They have more or less sat back and reaped the rewards and took the time to say "its not our doing" while the minions do the work instead.

I think ...and I may not be alone here    that people who offer such views should have at least the experience of giving up a Saturday to post the flyers you speak of   maybe then and only then will it add a touch more credence to their ridiculous claims ..

I have worked several positions as a volunteer to get my backside of my seat and give my experience. By all means call Foresight, NHC, Safe and Clean Team in grimsby. All of them can account for me, I have given myself over to free time, to get my backside of my seat, to ensure im giving to a good cause. The SoS are  not a good cause. All the charities I have worked for, I have never had to pay to give my free time for.

Totally shocked and dismayed by this post Kharhaz ...maybe you could provide an inventory on just what relevant actions you personally took ..... I'm sure it will make for avid reading

I have always supported the club, not an institution. My support is always for the well being of the club, not memberships or individuals. Look on this forum for my replies, I am guessing your avid reading will fade. Liverpool FC is in my heart always.

Listen Kharhaz while I view the charity work you have undertaken in the past as highly creditable ... I must however bring you back to my original question .. which was what have you as an individual done in respect to the eventual usurping of the owners ???
While you are thinking about that ..I will however endeavour to explain the S.O.S set up .... first and foremost S.O.S are for all intents and purposes a Union.. which means its a unification of like minded people who have the same aims and goals in mind, and like any Union it depends especially in its infancy largely ( in this respect solely ) on the contributions of its members
It doesnt however have any covert plans or hidden agendas and if you attended a meeting  this is the very least you would walk away with ???
Im sure at some stage in your life you have paid a fee to a union in order for them to fight your case against your employers ...
I suspect you are an intelligent man Kharhaz .....so for future reference could you please credit the fans and posters who believe we our working together for the common good as having a modicum of intelligence also .......

Kharhaz mate , i'll try my best to answer your questions as best as i can .

The SOS commitee(the ones you said sit back ans let there minions do the work) are all volunteers mate. They have jobs of there own to do and families of there own to look after. They do a damn fine job FOR NOTHING mate ,not a bean .

The reason i tell you to look on the SOS website is that the accounts are there for all to see ,the union is totally transparent in all it's activities.

The munich chants and the flag burning . They were unfortunate incidents that the union totally discredited them. Were they union members that did it ? Probably mate . If you go the match and you hear munich chants ,will that stop you from supporting liverpool ? No thought not . Well it's not going to stop me from supporting SOS either , i will discredit them from within if i can .

You can ask members who have recently joined on here what there concerns are/were . Some said the union was being run  by a bunch of amatuers and not proffesional enough . Well the union has been running very proffesional campaigns recently ie the billboard campaign , the leafleting of fansat the ground trying to educate them . This all costs money and it's the union subscription that goes towrds paying for this. MUST (MAN UTD SUPPORTERS TRUST) have nearly 100,000 members signed up for free on a website. Do you no how many members turned up at there last AGM ? About 160.  We have over 7000 paid up members and 30,000 facebook members. We now have 4 branches set up , LONDON, SWEDEN NORN IRN AND NORWAY. oh and an internet branch aswell .

If you look on the SOS website you will see the unions aims . They are not just to get rid of these owners but to hold all owners to account . They are to get farer ticket prices for fans. They are to regenerate the anfield area and to help the local community of anfield. They are to get cheaper travel for fans, and they are to ultimately havefan ownership of LFC . The union is not just about marching and flag waving ,there's a whole lot more to the union than you think . We are a world wide union , we have members from all walks of life from the unemployed to mothers and lawyers and teachers and politicans and actors and so on .

I've tried lash and i will keep trying to answer your questions mate , but you do really need to have a good look at the website and it will answer a lot of your questions . That's what it is for mate.

Fair enough mate. I have looked on website, quite a few times, but I have my cynical head on. I have doubts over a lot of things. My missus asked if I wanted a chilli for tea, so naturally I asked (seeing as its one of my favourite dishes) why? whats going on? what ya done?

I should try that benefit of the doubt doo dah...

Your right. My doubts have come across as the members being nothing but mindless drones. They are not, of course their not. So for that I apologise. We all want the same thing, the best for the club. Members or not, we should unite the fans totally once again, and bring that atmosphere back to Anfield. Of course until the yanks are gone, that will be difficult as they are a disease causing all kinds of contamination.
